Baby dedication is a way to publicly acknowledge that you believe in Christ and your commitment to raise your child in the Christian faith. It’s a way for you to ask your church family to pray for your child and for you as a parent. God’s Promise to Children

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we gather to celebrate the dedication of these precious children to the Lord. As parents, grandparents, and members of this church family, it is our responsibility to nurture and guide these children in the ways of the Lord. Let us reflect on God’s promise to children and how we can fulfill our duty to raise them up in the faith.

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” This verse reminds us of the importance of teaching children about God’s love and His commandments. Just as parents are called to train their children in the ways of the world, they are also called to train them in the ways of the Lord.

In Deuteronomy 6:6-7, we are instructed to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” We must make God’s word a central part of our lives and pass it on to our children.

Jesus Welcomes the Children

In Mark 10:13-16, we see Jesus welcoming the children who were brought to Him. He said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” This shows us the importance of welcoming children into the church and nurturing their faith.

Just as Jesus embraced the children and blessed them, we too must embrace these children and support their families in raising them in the faith. Let us commit to praying for them, teaching them the word of God, and being an example of Christ’s love to them.

Let us commit to supporting these families in their journey of faith, and let us pray that these children grow up to be strong and faithful followers of Christ. May God bless them and keep them always in His loving care. Amen.

Dedicating a baby to God

We have the opportunity today to dedicate our child to God. This is an exciting time for you, and it’s important that we take a moment to reflect on what this means.

Consider 1 Samuel 1:20-28, which reads:

“When she [Hannah] was praying in her heart, Eli observed her mouth; she was speaking in praise of the Lord. And he thought: ‘How long will this little woman be praying here? Let me give her something so that she can’t stop.’ So he said, ‘Go in peace! The Lord has given you what you asked.'”

It’s clear from reading these verses that Hannah devoted herself wholeheartedly to prayer without concern for what anyone else thought about it. She didn’t worry about whether or not people around her were noticing how long she was praying; instead, she focused on praising God as much as possible with every breath in her body. When Hannah prayed at length like that—without concern for others or their opinions—Eli noticed because he saw it as a sign of devotion to God and love for him (and thusly rewarded)

Examples Of Baby Dedication In The Bible

You would be setting an example of dedication if you were dedicated yourself. If you are not dedicated, your baby will not learn from your actions, and he or she won’t be a good example for the rest of his or her life.

How can we teach our children to be dedicated?

  • Be devoted to godliness with the commitment it takes to live a godly lifestyle (Titus 2:12)
  • Stay committed to doing what’s right regardless of the consequences (Romans 1:17)

Making wise choices

Making wise choices is the goal of every parent and child.

As a parent, it’s your job to teach your children how to make good decisions and avoid making bad ones.

Decision-making is an essential life skill that all people must develop in order to be successful in life. It’s important to teach this skill as early as possible so that decision-making becomes a part of their routine and they can use it throughout their lives.

The first step towards making good decisions is asking yourself questions with clear answers: Is there more than one way? Are there any consequences? What do I want this for? What are the possible outcomes? Can I handle them if something goes wrong? Will someone else be affected if I make this choice or not?

Putting on spiritual armor

It is one thing to read about the armor of the Christian and say, “I will put on God’s armor.” But it is quite another thing to actually do it. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:10-18:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…”

How does one go about putting on God’s spiritual armor? First, we must understand what it means for us today as Christians living in a postmodern world with no visible enemies—no Roman armies marching toward us from across Europe or Asia Minor! It would be shameful for me as a pastor or leader if I had no answer for those who ask how they should protect themselves spiritually today! In fact, there are many people out there who question whether they really need any kind of spiritual protection at all, and if they do, then how would they know how best to acquire it?

The importance of prayer and Bible study

The first step in becoming a disciple is prayer. Prayer is not just saying words; it is opening your heart to God and listening for His voice. To pray, begin by talking to Him as if you were talking with a friend: “God, I’m so excited that you are now part of the life of my child! Please help me understand what it means to be a parent and raise him or her in Your image.”

Next, read Scripture together as a family every day when possible. Read through the Bible together over eight weeks (our Start-Up Series suggests one lesson per week), or choose one book at home each day (our Life Application Study Guide provides twenty lessons on selected books). Remember that learning from God’s Word happens best when we give ourselves time to digest its message through careful study and reflection—so don’t feel rushed! It’s important that children see parents placing value on spending time reading God’s Word together.

Teaching About Child Dedication

“Trust in God,” the Bible says.

That’s a big order.

It’s easy to trust someone who has proven himself trustworthy. But what if you’re just starting out? What if you don’t want to trust him because he hasn’t given you any reason to? What if he doesn’t seem trustworthy at all?

If your goal is to become an Olympic athlete, it’s not enough for your parents, friends, and family to encourage you by saying, “One day we’ll see!” They might be right about that day coming, but until then, their words won’t help because they don’t have the power to make it happen. You need more than encouragement; you need some sort of proof that this dream will come true—and nobody but God can give that proof!

Future sermons can be based on this topic.

For example, you could use this topic as a basis for a sermon about God’s love and mercy in general. You could talk about how God loves us—and all his creations—no matter what we have done in the past. Or you could focus on the mercy that comes with knowing Jesus Christ as one’s savior and Lord, which is available to everyone who believes (John 3:16).

If you’re feeling ambitious, there are many other ways of using this sermon as a starting point:

  • You could talk about what it means to become a parent or caretaker through baptismal vows (a rite of passage into adulthood).
  • You might also give an overview of what happens during baptism ceremonies before diving into specific biblical references for further study (e.g., “We now welcome [child’s name] into our congregation!”).
