Have you ever felt like you could do anything? Like your body was an extension of your mind, and no matter how fast or far you went, it was never enough?
Strong and faithful God, as we come together for this contest, we ask you to bless these athletes. Keep them safe from injury and harm, instill in them respect for each other, and reward them for their perseverance. Lead us all to the rewards of your kingdom where you live and reign for ever and ever, Amen.
It wasn’t just about getting into college—it was about showing myself that if I could run 26 miles without stopping or breaking down in tears (which is what happened during our first practice run), then maybe there weren’t any limits to what my body could do after all!
When you’re an athlete, your body can be your best friend or your worst enemy. When it’s feeling good, you feel unstoppable—like you could take on the world. But when your body is acting up, it can feel like the end of the world. You know that one of the best ways to help yourself is through prayer. But what do you pray for when it comes to being an athlete?
Catholic Prayer For Athletes
Catholic athletes often turn to prayer to seek guidance, strength, and protection as they compete in their respective sports. Here are 9 powerful prayers for athletes to recite before a game, competition, or practice:
1. Prayer for Courage

2. Prayer for Focus
Lord, help me to stay focused and present in the moment. Clear my mind of distractions and allow me to perform at my highest level. Guide my actions and decisions on the field/court/track and help me to stay calm under pressure. Amen.
3. Prayer for Strength

Thanks for the talent and the opportunity to play.
This prayer is for athletes who want to use their talent to glorify God. May we be good stewards of all He has given us, remembering that nothing is ours except through His grace. May we use our time on Earth wisely so that when the time comes for us to leave this world, we will have left a legacy worthy of Him who gave us this gift.
No one can predict what the results will be this game.
In this prayer, you’ll ask God to help you as you participate in your sport. You can also pray for the other members of your team, as well as any opponents or officials involved in the game. As you’re praying, it may be helpful to think of some specific people who need extra blessings today—for example, maybe a teammate is playing injured and might need extra support from above. Or maybe there’s an opponent who deserves special attention because they have been particularly kind during pre-game warm ups or during the competition itself.
During this prayer time, take a moment to thank God for all he has done in response to your requests over time—and also ask him if there are any additional things that should be asked of him now that would help guide us toward success today (and every day).

- Pray for the ability to do your best, even if it’s less than perfect.
- Pray for the strength to be a good role model, whether it’s on or off the field.
- Pray for the ability to listen to your coach and follow his advice when he tells you something that may be hard or uncomfortable at first but will ultimately help you improve as an athlete and person.
- Pray for the ability to overcome your fears so that anxiety doesn’t keep you from performing at your peak level during games and practices. If there are certain situations where nerves have gotten the better of me in previous years, I ask You now: Help me find peace within myself so that no one can ever see weakness within me again!
Prayer doesn’t require any special language or knowledge beyond what is already known by all who believe in God; I believe this is because when we pray with faith (and sincerity), God answers those prayers through His Son Jesus Christ our Lord who died on Calvary Hill three days after being crucified by Pontius Pilate because He believed He could save us all through His death on behalf of His love for us.”
Short athletes prayer
Help me find the best path for my life.
If you’re a student or athlete, I pray that you will find the right path for your life. That is my prayer for all of us at East Christian High School, but especially for those who play sports.
I pray that God would send His blessings and grace upon each one of them as they play their sport. I pray that He would give them good health, wisdom and strength to perform their best on the field or court so that they can glorify Him in all things.
I pray that He would give them victory over their opponents so that His name will be magnified in glory through them (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Thank you for all the people who have helped me, especially my parents and my coach.
