Bible Verses About Putting Your Wife First

Marriage is a two-way relationship and it takes just as much effort and care to maintain a successful marriage as it does to make one. Matthew 19:5 (Jubilee 2000 translation) For this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. You are supposed to leave your parents and become one with your spouse. This leaves zero room for dear old Mummy to join in.

Despite what many people believe, you can’t have a successful and long-lasting marriage without putting your wife first – in everything. You may think that you’re doing enough by taking care of your wife, but what if she thinks otherwise? If making her happy is so important, shouldn’t there be more Bible verses about putting your wife first?

Paul said, “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh” (Ephesians 5:31 KJV).

What Does the Bible Say About a Husband Defending His Wife

In the Bible, husbands are called to love and honor their wives, to protect and defend them in times of trouble. Here are 10 verses that highlight the importance of a husband defending his wife:

    1. Genesis 2:24

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

    2. Ephesians 5:25

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

    3. Colossians 3:19

“Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.”

    4. 1 Peter 3:7

“Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”

    5. Proverbs 31:11-12

“The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.”

    6. Proverbs 20:6-7

“Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find? The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!”

    7. 1 Corinthians 7:3-4

“The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise, the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.”

    8. 1 Timothy 5:8

“But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

    9. Proverbs 18:22

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”

    10. 1 Corinthians 7:2

“But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.”

As these verses show, the Bible emphasizes the importance of husbands loving, honoring, and protecting their wives. It is a husband’s duty to defend and care for his wife, just as Christ cares for His church.

Bible Verses About Putting Your Wife First

    Introduction

It’s a common misconception that being a Christian means that you have to put your wife first. That’s not necessarily true. In fact, it’s actually sexist to say that men must put their wives first at all times above themselves and before God. Here’s why:

Colossians 3:18-19 – Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. A husband should never be harsh with his wife. This verse teaches that wives should submit to their husbands as the Lord their God has asked them to do. It’s important for husbands to love their wives and not be harsh with them (see also Ephesians 5:25). A husband who is not only kind but also happy to serve his wife is considered a godly man (1 Peter 3:7). Being harsh toward a wife can lead her away from God—and loving her will help keep her close by!

Ephesians 5:25 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

When it comes to your relationship with your wife, you’re going to have to make some sacrifices in order for it to work. You need to put her needs ahead of yours and recognize that she is not just someone who lives in your house, but she is also an important part of who you are as a man. She deserves respect and care from you because she is valuable and special.

You should treat her like an individual person and not just another member of the household or someone who exists only because they exist. This means being there when they need you or having time set aside each day so that she can have time alone with no interruptions whatsoever—even if this means giving up some things that would be fun or relaxing for yourself (like watching TV).

Ephesians 5:28-29 – In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church

Husbands should love their wives as they love themselves and as Christ loves the church.

This is a very important verse for husbands to keep in mind as they care for their wife. When you truly love someone, you want the best for them, no matter what it takes to get there. This means being able to sacrifice your own desires for theirs, even if that means suffering in some way yourself. For example, if your wife wants to go somewhere but it’s going to be inconvenient or costly for you (or if she has some other reason why it would be difficult), then you could tell her that she can go by herself this time around because of how much work is involved with taking care of the kids and keeping up with everything else that needs doing around home—but encourage her not just say “no” out of selfishness but also consider whether there are ways through which he can help take off some pressure from her so that she doesn’t feel overworked or overwhelmed while trying balance things out on her own while still getting everything done at home during those times when he’s away from home working outside jobs; this way both partners wouldn’t needlessly suffer due lack support from one another since having either party feeling overwhelmed will only cause problems down road…

Ephesians 5:33 – However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

    • Ephesians 5:33-34

Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. Finally, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly tenderhearted [compassionate], humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult but giving a blessing instead; for know that to this you have been called so that you may inherit a blessing.

    • 1 Peter 3:7-8

Husbands should also consider [this]: ‘The future of my wife is precious/preciousness (of) like a delicate female.’ (See also Song 8:6) Therefore let him who seeks her favor from his heart seek it from God’s mercy rather than from man’s judgment.”

1 Peter 3:7 – Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Your wife is your equal but it is important to put her first.

For the most part, we treat our wives as equal partners. We do not see them as inferior or as servants to be used by us. We show respect for their opinions and listen to what they have to say. We want them to feel like they are an important part of our lives and that is why we must put them first in everything that we do.

For example, if your wife suggests something that you know will cause problems at work or in your relationship with others, it may be best to talk about it before making any decisions because she is your equal and should be treated with respect. If you don’t treat her respectfully, then how can someone else? Some people might not agree with this point but I believe everyone should look out for each other’s best interests and put others first, even if it means compromising on some things so long as those compromises benefit everyone involved without causing harm or suffering to anyone else (including yourself).

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ~ Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. Ephesians 5:25 ~ Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Scriptures Quotes for Husbands and Wives

Ephesians 5:25 – Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Ephesians 5:33 – However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Genesis 2:18 – Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

Matthew 19:4-6 – He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Colossians 3:18-19 – Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.

1 Peter 4:8 – Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Proverbs 31:10 – An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.

Mark 10:6-9 – But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Ephesians 5:22-33 – Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

1 Corinthians 7:2-11 – But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
