    Short anchoring script for baptism

    Greetings to all of you. We are gathered here today to partake in the christening rite, express gratitude, and rejoice over the birth of a priceless child. My name is [Officiant].

    In the years to come, [Parent1] and [Parent2] hope that you will remain involved in their child’s life and would like to share their happiness with you. They are also conscious of the enormous responsibility they now bear. They will devote a significant portion of their lives to raising their child and assisting him or her along life’s numerous pathways.

    As the years pass, everyone of you present today, together with the friends and family who are unable to be here, will support and strengthen their role as parents.

    A child’s christening represents a significant life milestone for individuals who acknowledge the significance of God in our existence.

    It is God’s will, according to the Bible, for children to be brought to him for blessings.

    We are reminded of a parable found in Matthew 19:19–21, when young children were brought to Jesus so he might lay his hands on them and offer prayers on their behalf. The children were turned away by Jesus’s disciples, who may have thought they weren’t significant enough to demand their time and attention.

    But Jesus stated:

    “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” .

    Then he picked up each child in his arms, blessed them, and laid his hands on each of them. Let’s offer up prayers.

    Dear Lord, may your Holy Spirit envelop and revitalize us as we assemble here. We ask that you, in your great riches, strengthen this kid by sending your Spirit to live in him so that, by faith, Christ may dwell in his heart. And we ask that this child, grounded and grounded in love, may experience God’s love, which is more than our comprehension, so that he might be fully filled with God. Indeed.

    I’m going to ask the parents to present their son for baptism now.

    Will you, [Parent1] and [Parent2], with God’s assistance, make every effort to give your son or daughter love, consolation, encouragement, food, shelter, and safety from harm?

    Yes, we will.

    One piece of basic advise for giving a christening speech would be to speak from your heart. However, you can always adhere to the general advice shown below:

    express gratitude to everyone in attendance at the ceremony;
    laud your godchild’s close friends and family, particularly the child’s parents;
    Give your godchild your full attention by wishing them well in the future and discussing the good times they are currently experiencing;
    Employ comedy: it will not only help you feel less nervous during the speech but also make it more engaging for the audience;
    a toast at the conclusion of your speech to demonstrate your sincerity;
    instead of reading the speech from the page, use quick cue cards to make sure nothing important is missed;
    and lastly, make sure your baptism speech is succinct.

    1. An Expression of gratitude
      Your speech can revolve around expressing gratitude to all those who attended the baptism, such as the parents, grandparents, and friends. Make sure you don’t overlook any significant individuals. Even though the speech may be spontaneous, it’s a good idea to have a list of attendees ready in advance.

    For instance: I’d like to thank everyone for coming today. To the parents of tiny Annie, who gave birth to such a magnificent kid, we extend our congratulations. I want to thank everyone who traveled a great distance to share in our happiness. We are grateful to the priest for this lovely service and for his heartwarming words of inspiration.

    1. An Adoration for the Parents
      Tell the godchild’s parents how much you appreciate their love and care, and express your happiness at knowing them. It would be wonderful to provide anecdotes to back up your statements and to list a few instances in which you particularly appreciated them. Talk about and give praise to other family members to demonstrate what a large and wonderful family your godchild is privileged to have.

    For instance: Annie and her amazing parents, who welcomed her into the world, are the reason we are all here together. Annie may be too young, but I’m sure she recognizes what a wonderful family she has. She will always be grateful for your assistance, which is a sign of your deep love for her.

    1. Hopeful for the Future of Your Godchild
      Here’s where you tell others about the baby’s unique qualities and the positive traits he or she already possesses, like optimism, curiosity, or a quick intellect. Discuss the promising future you believe he or she has ahead of them based on your observations and aspirations.

    As an illustration, Annie We are all here because we adore you, I would want to convey. Despite being a recent addition to our family, your charming laugh, lovely grin, and cunning curiosity about the world have already won us over. We’re all rooting for you today and hope that life brings you nothing but happiness and a lengthy, thrilling, and fruitful voyage!

    Naturally, there are more things you can say at the baptism ceremony. Although you are welcome to utilize the aforementioned samples, we encourage you to add something unique. If you’re unsure, simply take another glance at your godchild and speak from the bottom of your heart.

    Thank you Ma’am _______ and thank you so much everyone for gracing this very momentous chapter of Baby (Erl’s) life.

    At this moment, let us hear the messages of the proud parents to their newly baptized baby. Let us start off with the father, Mr. _____________. Thank you sir. Now, Let me call on the mother, Mrs. __________. Thank you ma’am.

    Note: Record their messages or take a video as they say their messages so the child can see it once he/she has grown up.

    Now, let me call on the godparents to come forward as we light the candle of the baptismal cake. As godparents, you have accepted the roles and responsibilities of being Baby (Erl’s) light and guide as he/she grows so that she will become the person that God plans her to be.

    Catholic baptism ceremony script

    Baptism is the first sacrament of Christian initiation. It is a ritual washing, not a renovation. The baptismal candidate is immersed in water as a symbol of death and resurrection, and through this sign he or she is born again into the new life by which we are saved.

    The baptismal ceremony should be prepared with care. The celebrant should be aware that it requires the assistance of others who must prepare the candidate beforehand, assemble in order, and then gather around the candidate after he or she has been baptized. They should also be aware that it is an occasion for joy and celebration.

    The following script contains suggestions for planning a baptismal ceremony:

    1) Beforehand, prepare everyone involved in this special day for what lies ahead. Pray together about what God wants to do today through these gifts of water and Spirit. The celebrant should speak with the parents or godparents privately before the baptism to explain what will happen during the service, including any questions they may have about their role in welcoming their new child into Christ’s family or community of faith.

    2) Assemble those who will participate in the service according to their roles: parent(s), godparent(s), godchild(ren), priest/deacon.

    Baptist baptism script

    Baptism is the sacrament by which one is initiated into the Catholic church. It is a public profession of faith and participation in the life of the Church. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated within the context of worshiping God as community and proclaiming Christ in word and action.

    Baptism is a celebration of God’s gift of new life in Christ, which we share with one another through our mutual dedication to God, our common faith in Jesus Christ, and our baptismal covenant to serve him in holiness and truth.

    The Rite of Baptism begins with a greeting from the celebrant followed by an invitation for those present to greet each other. The celebrant then invites those present to pray together silently for those who are about to be baptized, remembering that “all men are called to be saints” (Pope Paul VI). Next follows an opening prayer expressing gratitude for all that has been accomplished by Jesus Christ since his first coming into this world. The celebrant then prays for those who will be baptized, asking God’s grace upon them so that they may live out their baptismal covenant faithfully until death.

    At this moment, you make a wish for Baby (Erl) and then blow the candle in 3, 2, 1, Blow!

    May Baby (Erl) grow up to be God-fearing and may she become the best version of herself as she lives her life according to God’s plans.

    Now, let’s have the slicing of the baptismal cake by the parents.

    At this point in time, I would like to request the godparents to pour wine in their glasses and have a toast in 3, 2, 1. Toast! Thank you so much dear godparents for accepting the challenge in co-parenting Baby (Erl).

    At this juncture, let me call on the parents to put the baptismal candle and the godparents to put their written messages for Baby (Erl) inside the Sacrament box. The Sacrament box will be given and opened by the baby once she can understand the meaning of baptism and once she knows how to read and comprehend the messages written for her by her godparents.

    Note: Days before the baptism, inform the godparents about the letter that they are going to write for the baby.

    Let us now have the giving of tokens/souvenirs to our godparents and guests. (Just assign someone to distribute the tokens/souvenirs to the godparents and guests at their respective tables.)

    Now, let’s have the picture-taking with Baby (Erl) ( Example: Baby with parents, Baby with grandparents, Baby with godparents, etc…)

    This time it’s time to take our meal. Let me call on ________ to lead the Prayer Before Meals.

    Happy eating everyone and thank you so much for coming!

    Anchoring Script for Religious Function

    My dear Helen and Thomas, relatives and friends.

    Even though Christine is still too little to fully comprehend what I’m saying, I’d want to speak a few words in her honor as we gather today to celebrate her baptism. Fortunately, she can get that from her proud parents. I am incredibly grateful and honored that you chose me to be the godmother of your first child, darling Helen and Thomas!

    As the mother of two children, I am aware that, despite how wonderful and beautiful a child’s birth is to new parents, it is merely the start of a protracted journey. Christine’s personality will be shaped through experience, memories, and time. The philosopher Théodore Jouffroy once said, “Only beings are born via birth. Yet, a person is made during life.”

    I want to help Christine grow as much as I can as her godmother. I don’t want to be the godmother she just sees occasionally. I pledge to establish a solid, enduring relationship with Christine and to be there for her anytime she needs me. Helen and Thomas, I know that’s what you were thinking when you asked me, and I promise to do what you have asked.

    But before I do that, I’ll give you, the parents, this little tip. My job will be to give Christine love and counsel. Again, a word of caution from a mother of two: savor the time you have with Christine, especially now, for it won’t be long before this precious girl enters puberty and starts exploring her devilish side. You’ll be shocked at the mischief that may arise beneath that innocent face!

    Christening Ceremony

    • How should you decorate the table for the ceremony? We suggest you add a white tablecloth, a lit candle or flowers. The celebrant will need a small container/dish of water on the table for the ceremony. You may wish to have ambient music playing in the background or have a friend play a solo. You can have a designated camera person. Feel free to involve others in the ceremony as readers.
    • Your do not require witnesses, sponsors or godparents for the ceremony but they are a nice touch.

    Introduction

    Welcome to each one of you. My name is [Officiant], and we’re here today to participate in the christening sacrament, and to give thanks and celebrate our joy in the arrival of a precious child.

    [Parent1] and [Parent2] want to share their joy with you and they look forward to your continuing involvement with their child’s life in the years ahead. They are also aware of the great responsibility that is now theirs. A great deal of their lives will be involved in caring for their child, and guiding him/her through the many paths of life.

    As the years go by, their role as parents will be assisted and enhanced by each one of you here today, as well as by the friends and elsewhere that are unable to be here.

    The christening of a child is an important rite of passage to those that recognise the role that God plays in our lives.

    The Bible tells us that it is God’s will that children be brought to him for blessing.

    We are reminded of a story in the book of Matthew, Chapter 19, where little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. Jesus’s disciples felt perhaps that the children were not important enough to warrant Christ’s time and energy, and they turned them away.

    However, Jesus said:

    “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”.

    Then he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on each of them, and blessed them… Let us pray.

    Dear Lord, as we gather here, may your Holy Spirit surround us and rejuvenate us. We pray that out of your glorious riches, you may strengthen this child with your Spirit, so that Christ may dwell in his heart though faith. And we pray that this child, being rooted and established in love, may know the love of God that surpasses all knowledge, so that he may be filled to the measure with the fullness of God. Amen.

    I will now ask the parents to bring forward their son to be christened.

    [Parent1] and [Parent2], with the help of God, will you do all that you can to provide your son/daughter with love, comfort, encouragement, sustenance, shelter and protection from harm?

    We will.

    Prayer

    God our creator, we thank you for the wonder of new life and for the mystery of human love. We thank you for all whose support and skill surround and sustain the beginning of life. We thank you that we are known to you by name and loved by you from all eternity.

    Godparents Section

    [Parent1] and [Parent2], have you chosen godparents for your child?
    Yes, we have.

    Please have them come forward.

    Tell us your names.

    [Godparent], with the help of God, will you do all that you can to help and support [Parent1] and [Parent2] in the bringing up of their son? I will.

    [Godparent], with the help of God, will you do all that you can to help and support [Parent1] and [Parent2] in the bringing up of their son? I will.

    Question for Witnesses

    God our creator, we thank you for the gift of this child, entrusted to our care. May we be patient and understanding, ready to guide and to forgive, so that through our love he may come to know your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    Prayer

    Eternal Father, we ask that you pour your blessings into this water, and sanctify it for our use today. In Christ’s name.

    The minister takes [Child] from the godparents, holds him/her and says:

    [Parent1] and [Parent2], what name have you given your child? (Parents answer)

    Then I hereby christen you [Child].

    The Baptism

    (The minister can either have a vessel of blessed water available to pour over the child’s forehead or makes the sign on the cross on the child’s forehead with the blessed water from the ‘font’.)

    And, by the authority vested in me by God and his Church, I hereby baptize you in the name of the Father (pour or cross),
    and of the Son (pour or cross),
    and of the holy Spirit (pour or cross). Amen.

    As Jesus took children in his arms and blessed them, so now we ask God’s blessing on this Child. (as [Child] is returned to [Parent1] and [Parent2])

    Prayer

    Heavenly Father, we praise you for [Child]’s birth – surround him/her with your blessings that he may know your love, be protected from evil, and know your goodness all his days. May he/she learn to love all that is true, grow in wisdom and strength and, come through faith to the fullness of your Grace.

    May God the Father of all bless these parents and godparents and give them grace to love and care for their child. May God give them wisdom, patience and faith, and help them to provide for [Child]’s needs.

    Eternal Father, we thank you for the rich variety of the families you have created for us, and for the relationships which we see and enjoy within them. Help us to respect and learn from each other. We thank you too for love that binds the families that are here today, and we ask your blessing on them.

    Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son shared at Nazareth the life of an earthly home, bless the home of this child, may it provide shelter, warmth and security to the family and to all those who visit.

    All this we ask in Jesus’s name, Amen.

    Closing

    [Child], today we officially welcome you. We wish you long life and much happiness. May you face all challenges that come to you as a person of integrity,
    May you continue to bring great joy to your parents, your grandparents, family, friends, and to all those who come to know you.
    May beauty delight you and happiness uplift you,
    May wonder fulfill you and love surround you.
    May your step be steady and your arm be strong,
    May your heart be peaceful and your word be true.
    May you seek to learn, may you learn to live.
    May you live to love, and may you love – always.

    Benediction

    May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always.
