Rosary Prayers for Death Anniversary

Losing a loved one is never easy, and as the anniversary of their passing approaches, it is important to take time to remember and honor their memory. One way to do this is through the Rosary, a powerful form of prayer in the Catholic tradition. Here are six prayers to help you commemorate the death anniversary of your loved one:

1. Praying for Peace and Comfort

Dear Lord, on this anniversary of my loved one’s passing, I ask for your presence and comfort. May your peace fill my heart and soul as I remember and honor their life. Give me strength to carry on and cherish the memories we shared. Amen.

2. Seeking Strength and Guidance

Heavenly Father, in my grief and sorrow, I turn to you for strength and guidance. Help me navigate this difficult time and find solace in the memories of my beloved departed. May your light shine upon me as I walk through this valley of darkness. Amen.

3. Remembering with Love and Gratitude

Lord Jesus, as I reflect on the life of my dear one who has passed, I am filled with love and gratitude for the time we shared. Help me to honor their memory with kindness and compassion towards others. May their legacy live on in the hearts of those who knew them. Amen.

4. Finding Hope in the Promise of Resurrection

God of all comfort, as I remember my loved one on the anniversary of their death, I find hope in the promise of resurrection. Grant me the assurance that we will be reunited in your eternal kingdom. May this knowledge bring peace to my grieving heart. Amen.

5. Offering Prayers for the Departed Soul

Eternal Rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

6. Trusting in God’s Plan and Timing

Heavenly Father, in my sorrow and pain, I trust in your divine plan and timing. Help me to find meaning in the loss of my loved one and to see your hand at work in all things. May I surrender my grief to you and find peace in your grace. Amen.

As we turn to prayer on the anniversary of a loved one’s death, we find solace in the words of the Bible. One verse that brings comfort in times of loss is Psalm 34:18, which says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” May we take refuge in the Lord’s presence and find peace in His comforting embrace.

Anniversaries that mark the passing of a loved one can be difficult. Acknowledging these anniversaries by offering words of comfort on the anniversary of a death or providing remembrance messages to mark the death anniversary are simple ways to provide support to loved ones.

Alternatively, you may be the person who recently lost someone and are looking for remembrance quotes for the death anniversary of someone close to you. It can be difficult to put your own feelings into words, so reading the comforting words that others have written on the anniversary of a death can be helpful.

Dear Lord,

We pray for the soul of our loved one who has passed away. We pray for their eternal rest and peace. We pray that they will be with you in heaven and that you will welcome them into your arms. We ask that you give us the strength to move forward, to live our lives as they would have wanted us to live them, and to remember them always. Amen

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end Amen!

Prayer for the Faithful Departed Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

Novena Prayer for Death Anniversary

On the anniversary of a loved one’s passing, it can be a time of deep reflection, remembrance, and prayer. The Novena Prayer for Death Anniversary is a powerful way to honor the memory of the departed and seek comfort and healing for those left behind. The novena consists of nine days of prayer and reflection, culminating in a special prayer on the actual anniversary date.

Below are six heartfelt prayers to offer during the Novena Prayer for Death Anniversary:

Day 1 Prayer:

Lord, as we begin this Novena for the anniversary of our loved one’s passing, we ask for your comfort and strength to sustain us during this time of remembrance. Surround us with your love and peace, and help us to find solace in the cherished memories we hold in our hearts.

Day 2 Prayer:

Heavenly Father, on this second day of our novena, we lift up our prayers for our departed loved one. May their soul rest in eternal peace, and may we find comfort in the knowledge that they are in your loving embrace. Grant us the grace to accept your will and find hope in the promise of everlasting life.

Day 3 Prayer:

Dear God, as we continue our novena, we ask for your healing presence to touch our grieving hearts. Help us to find peace in the midst of sorrow and to trust in your divine plan. May the memories of our loved one bring us joy and gratitude for the time we shared together.

Day 4 Prayer:

Lord Jesus, on this fourth day of our novena, we pray for strength and courage to face the pain of loss. Help us to remember that you are our rock and our refuge, and that you never leave us nor forsake us. May we find hope in your promise of resurrection and eternal life.

Day 5 Prayer:

Holy Spirit, as we approach the halfway mark of our novena, we ask for your light to guide us through the darkness of grief. Fill our hearts with faith and trust in your goodness, and grant us the grace to forgive any hurts or regrets that linger in our souls. May we find peace in your presence and the assurance of your love.

Day 6 Prayer:

Merciful God, on this sixth day of our novena, we bring before you our prayers for healing and renewal. Pour out your grace upon us, that we may be comforted in our sorrow and strengthened in our faith. Help us to let go of any guilt or resentment, and to embrace the gift of forgiveness and reconciliation.

Day 7 Prayer:

Lord of all comfort, as we enter the final days of our novena, we entrust our hearts and our prayers to you. Grant us the peace that surpasses all understanding, and the hope that endures beyond our earthly sorrows. May the promise of your presence sustain us in our grief and lead us to the joy of eternal life with you.

In times of loss and remembrance, we find solace in the words of Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” May this verse be a source of comfort and strength as we offer our prayers during the Novena Prayer for Death Anniversary. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

How To Pray The Rosary

Rosary beads help Catholics count their prayers. More importantly, Catholics pray the rosary as a means of entreaty to ask God for a special favor, such as helping a loved one recover from an illness, or to thank God for blessings received — a new baby, a new job, a new moon.

  1. On the following three small beads, pray three Hail Marys. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
  2. On the chain, pray the Glory Be. Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
  3. On the large bead, meditate on the first mystery and pray the Our Father. You pray mysteries for each of the five sections (decades) of the rosary according to the day of the week:
    1. Mondays and Saturdays: The Joyful Mysteries remind the faithful of Christ’s birth: The Annunciation (Luke 1:26–38); The Visitation (Luke 1:39–56); The Nativity (Luke 2:1–21); The Presentation (Luke 2:22–38); The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41–52)
    2. Tuesdays and Fridays: The Sorrowful Mysteries recall Jesus’ passion and death: The Agony of Jesus in the Garden (Matthew 26:36–56); The Scourging at the Pillar (Matthew 27:26); The Crowning with Thorns (Matthew 27:27–31); The Carrying of the Cross (Matthew 27:32); The Crucifixion (Matthew 27:33–56).
    3. Wednesdays and Sundays: The Glorious Mysteries focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the glories of heaven: The Resurrection (John 20:1–29); The Ascension (Luke 24:36–53); The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1–41); The Assumption of Mary, the Mother of God, into heaven; The Coronation of Mary in heaven.
    4. Thursdays: Pope John Paul II added The Mysteries of Light, also known as the Luminous Mysteries, in 2002: The Baptism in the River Jordan (Matthew 3:13–16); The Wedding Feast at Cana (John 2:1–11); The Preaching of the coming of the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:14–15); The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–8); The Institution of the Holy Eucharist (Matthew 26).
  4. Skip the centerpiece medallion, and on the ten beads after that, pray a Hail Mary on each bead; on the chain, pray a Glory Be. Although a decade is 10, these 12 prayers form a decade of the rosary. Many Catholics add the Fatima Prayer after the Glory Be and before the next Our Father: O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.
  5. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 four more times to finish the next four decades.
  6. At the end of your Rosary, say the Hail Holy Queen. Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation; grant we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Loss of a child (a prayer of comfort for someone who has lost their son) Abba Father, We long to be with our dear beloved child, our hearts are heavy with deep sorrow and our breath is shallow. We know you are with our dear beloved son (daughter), your heart is overjoyed by him. His breath is new life in Heaven. Please come and nurture our precious one. May she come to know that her beloved child is safe with you. Not lost but found, known, and cherished.

As I remember my grandmother, I pray that her soul has already found peace and rest in our Father’s heavenly home.

and bid them eternal rest. amen

Amen

Dear Lord, I just want to bring my dear Grandma to You. Lord, she has always put off making a commitment to follow You and to trust in Jesus as Saviour, but Lord she is advancing in years and probably does not have much longer in this world. Lord, I want my beloved granny to be with us in heaven, and up to now, she has been very resistant to the gospel of Christ.

Lord, I pray that You would convince her of her sin and convict her of her need of a Saviour. I pray that she may turn to Christ before she leaves this world, knowing that if she refuses she will have to face eternal separation from You, Father.

Lord, I love my grandmother and I know that You do too. I also know that it is not Your will that anyone should perish but that all should come to repentance. Please Lord, visit her and I do pray that she will accept the Lord Jesus as her personal Saviour before it is too late. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What’s Said During the Rosary Prayers at a Funeral?

What is said during the rosary prayers at a funeral - five mysteries photo

Again, the rosary is typically said during a Catholic vigil or wake. It is not commonly prayed during a funeral mass or mass of Christian burial.

The rosary for the deceased may be slightly different from the Rosary described above. Here’s what to expect if you attend a rosary service for the deceased. This rosary replaces the Fatima prayer with an eternal rest prayer and meditates on the five glorious mysteries:

  • Christ’s resurrection
  • Christ’s ascension into heaven
  • The Pentecost
  • The assumption of the Virgin Mary
  • The crowning of Mary

There are many websites dedicated to how to pray the rosary, but here is the order.

Recite the rosary during the vigil while meditating on the glorious mysteries.

Recite the “eternal rest” prayer after each decade, which is a group of ten hail Marys. This prayer reads, “Eternal rest grant unto him/her, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him/her. May he/she rest in peace. Amen.” This prayer replaces the Fatima prayer, which states: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need of your mercy.”

Recite Psalm 130 instead of the “hail holy queen” prayer. The “hail holy queen” prayer is recited after the five decades have been completed. Psalm 130 states:

                  “A song of ascents.
                  Out of the depths, I call to you, Lord;
                  Lord, hear my cry!
                  May your ears be attentive
                  to my cry for mercy.
If you, Lord, mark our sins,
                  Lord, who can stand?
                  But with you is forgiveness
                  and so you are revered.
I wait with longing for the Lord,
my soul waits for his word.
My soul looks for the Lord
                  more than sentinels for daybreak.
                  More than sentinels for daybreak,
let Israel look for the Lord.
For with the Lord is kindness,
                  with him is full redemption,
                  And God will redeem Israel
                  from all their sins.”

Recite the rosary for the dead, which is a five-decade rosary. It begins with the De Profundis and is composed of the “eternal rest” prayer and the phrase “sweet heart of Mary, be my salvation.”

The rosary service typically lasts for 20 minutes. If you are interested in the rosary service, you may also be interested in learning about praying a novena, a nine-day, nine-week, or nine-hour prayer for the deceased.
