Last year I made this chart for a group of youth that I was teaching, encouraging them to read the Book of Mormon every day.

There was no deadline to finish, no predetermined amount to read each day. Just read! Any amount they wanted to. And I promised them as they did that their lives would get better, they would see things more clearly, and that they would be happier.

And would you know it, each youth in my class accepted the invitation and began to read every day.

Some of them read a whole chapter a day, some read a verse or two, and for many of them the amount read changed each day… there was no judgment or pushing.  And every single one of them expressed that they were SO glad they accepted the invitation! They each shared how their daily reading blessed their lives.

Yay! What a wonderful thing!

***These Book of Mormon reading charts track the DAYS of reading
rather than the number of pages/chapters.

It’s so motivating to track daily efforts at reading rather than having to wait
until a chapter is finished before getting to mark off anything. This is highly motivating for kids and parents alike!

And you can start using these charts ANY TIME OF THE YEAR.

Our bishop was visiting with my daughter one day in the middle of the year and invited her to start reading the Book of Mormon every day. She took that invitation and started that very day, marking her progress on the chart.

She hasn’t missed a day since then and it’s been a year and a half!

Progress is progress any time of the year it’s started.

Brothers and sisters, without reservation I promise you that if you will prayerfully read the Book of Mormon, regardless of how many times you previously have read it, there will come into your hearts an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord. There will come a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to his commandments, and there will come a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Gordon B. Hinckley [2016],  233).

My two most favorite stories of the Savior from the Bible and the Book of Mormon are these:

Matthew 14: 22-31 Where Jesus invited Peter to come to him on the water and Peter boldly got out of the boat with incredible faith and walked on the water as he kept his focus on Jesus. When he let his attention get diverted by the storm he began to sink, and cried out to the Lord for help. And of course, the Lord quickly and lovingly rescued him.

3 Nephi 17: 11-25 Where the Savior is with the Nephites and had just healed many of their sick. He then invites all the children to be brought forth. He loves them, ministers to them, and blesses them one by one. He weeps at the joy he feels for these children and invites the multitude to “Behold your little ones.”

These two stories (among zillions of others) have found deep and abiding homes in the depths of my heart. They have taught me so much about focusing my sites and my faith in Jesus Christ, and in honoring and cherishing my role as a mother as I ‘behold my little ones.’

“It is not just that the Book of Mormon teaches us truth, though it indeed does that. It is not just that the Book of Mormon bears testimony of Christ, though it indeed does that, too. But there is something more. There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the strait and narrow path. The scriptures are called ‘the words of life’ (D&C 84:85), and nowhere is that more true than it is of the Book of Mormon. When you begin to hunger and thirst after those words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Ezra Taft Benson [2014], 141).

President Ezra Taft Benson

Oh, how I love the Book of Mormon!

This book has taught me so much and has strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ like nothing else. I testify that it’s true. I testify that it teaches of Jesus Christ and his doctrine. What a joy to learn and know these things!

The Bible and the Book of Mormon are both witnesses of Jesus Christ and are cherished in my heart beyond measure.

With all my heart I want the entire world to know Jesus Christ like I know him. And with all my heart, I want to know him better and better.

He is my friend, my light, my personal Savior, my comforter, my strength. It is because of him that I love my life so much, have such a strong family, and look forward to the future with such faith and optimism.

Is everything perfect in my life? Nope. Not at all.

But I would sure hate to face life without my knowledge and testimony of Jesus Christ. The Bible and the Book of Mormon and my faith, along with a life filled with prayer and personal revelation has given me these things.

Reading The Book of Mormon is such an important thing for us to make time for every day, but it can be hard to get in the habit of it, and stay on track! I mean, how many times have you read and re-read 1Nephi? Yeah, probably a million! But don’t worry, we created this Book of Mormon Reading Chart Printable Bookmark to help you stay motivated and on track with your scripture reading!

3 Tips for Staying on Track with Scripture Reading

1. Read at least a little every day!

Even if it’s just one page. It’s all about forming a habit.

2. The earlier in the day you read, the better!

You will always have a list of things you need to get done, and reading will get pushed to the back burner. If you do it early in the day, you won’t have the chance to keep pushing it off.

3. Use a reading tracker – like this bookmark!

Physically seeing your progress is SO motivating. There’s something so satisfying about crossing off those chapters! When you start getting closer and closer, you will want to read more and more so that you can accomplish your goal.
