Prayer To St Raymond For Gossip

Most everyone has a particular saint they turn to (usually, if they’re Catholic, a patron saint they’ve selected for themselves or usually one they choose at confirmation). Saints will come to you when you need them, usually; a few will make their presence acutely known (in the form of unusual birdsong, strong smells, reminders of their name or iconographic implements). But a few saints, especially the ones that are routinely petitioned, require you to come to them. You can think of petitioning a saint like using a special telephone to make certain calls; a “red phone” for your heavenly needs. In this case, sometimes you have to make sacrifices or offerings for using this “long-distance” line. Usually your saint will not make excessive demands for patronage or devotion; in most cases your saint simply wants you to be charitable, kind and loving.

Churchgists has provided a well detailed information on the aforementioned and so much more. You will find these details very useful in whatever course you intend to use them for.

Prayer to Shut Someone’s Mouth

Beloved Lord,

In the moment that you called the universe into existence with the words that came out of your own mouth, you created the universe. The words that you have spoken are tremendous and potent. You have just stated that there is power in the words that I speak since I was formed in Your image at this very moment. I need your assistance in being careful and responsible with my mouth, in being fast to hear, slow to say, and slow to the point of rage.

When I read Your Word, you tell me that blessing and cursing originate from the same mouth. You also tell me that even a fountain does not spew both pure water and bitter water from the same spout. In spite of this, I bless you, Lord, with my tongue, and with it I curse those who are created in your image. I beg you, Lord, to forgive me for my wild mouth, which is so frequently filled with malicious words. Oh Lord, I pray that you will change my heart, for it is from the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.

Please assist me, Lord, because you have stated that the power of the mouth determines whether one lives or dies. My words may have been critical, judgmental, sarcastic, disrespectful, or hurtful; I ask that you forgive me for these things. Please assist me in inspiring those around me with words of life and encouragement. Therefore, in order to avoid upsetting the Holy Spirit, please assist me in walking in love and delivering words of kindness, love, and grace at all times. Because a kind tongue is like a tree of life, and because I don’t want to crush the spirits of other people, please help me to be intelligent and to use my tongue to utter things that are therapeutic.

Protect me from getting into trouble by placing a watch guard on my mouth. Provide me with the knowledge to know when to speak and when to be silent or pray. When I talk, please assist me in speaking the truth in a loving manner. Because I am unable to control my mouth, I do not want the service that I do to You to be rendered useless. I want to become more mature and keep my mouth clean of filth. Thank you, Lord, for causing me to seek and carry out Your will, as well as for causing my thoughts to become congruent with Your will. I give you all the glory for the changes that you bring about in my life via the work of Your Holy Spirit, and I thank you, Lord, for the grace that you have shown me.

“In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Why We Prayer To St Raymond For Gossip

One reason that people petition the saints is to get people to stop slandering or gossiping about them. Slander is a sin, and people have every right to petition a saint to silence a rival or an enemy who will not stop talking badly about someone. I always say to ignore people who talk badly about you, but if the slander is so bad that you can’t go to work or make a living, or if it affects the relationships you have with your partner, spouse or children, it is time to be proactive and petition a saint to help stop the gossip or slander.

St Raymond Nonnatus was a Catalan saint of the 13th century, renowned not only for the circumstances of his birth (highly unusual for the time, he was born by Caesarean section), but also for his role in the development of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (or Mercedarians), who actively ransomed captive Christians imprisoned by various Muslim states in Northern Africa. His vita relates that his lips were padlocked shut to prevent him from preaching the Gospel in Algiers. It is from this (perhaps true) instance that devotion to him as a powerful stopper of gossip and slander arose. Many people seem to think of him as a martyr, but he died a confessor, in the year 1240. A late legend relates that he was to be ordained a cardinal; however recent evidence shows this to be erroneous.

His popularity has been widespread in Latin countries, especially the Spanish-speaking world, where in addition to being invoked against slander he is also invoked for a safe delivery. The most famous image of him shows him surrounded by ladies petitioning him for various graces. It is this feminine presence in his holy card that accounts for his popularity as not only a patron of good deliveries but also against slander and gossip.

Right here on Churchgist, you are privy to a litany of relevant information on and so much more. Take out time to visit our catalog for more information on similar topics.

You may offer him red and white carnations on his feast day, August 31. His altars are sometimes covered in padlocks, ex votos of those who successfully petitioned him, as well as baby pictures, family portraits, &c. He seems to like gladiolus flowers a lot, which in Spanish-speaking countries are a popular flower to offer male saints (perhaps because of the red color, cheap cost, and their sword-like or palm-like appearance). At home, people will leave a little padlock with a key (sometimes a heart-shaped) key or cinnamon candies with a red or white candle. His novena is considered especially powerful in resolving cases of slander and gossip. Here is the Spanish and English translation:

O glorious Saint Raymond Nonnatus, who for preaching the word of God was imposed a martyrdom of bearing a padlock in the mouth, hear my prayer and intercede before God the Father so that those who speak ill of me cease in their intent and I may be protected from all their hurtful words and intentions.

Almighty God, who granted to Saint Raymond Nonnatus the ardent desire to free slaves, I ask through his intercession that you separate me from the bondage of sin that separates me from You, and that I may live in peace, far away from all those that lurk about and torment me, that I may be forever far from those enemies who because of jealousy, ill will or resentment desire some evil, or who wish to discredit me with their calumnies.

Almighty God, I know You with your great goodness, and through the intercession of St Raymond Nonnatus, will not leave my petition unattended, this I ask by your son Jesus Christ, Our Lord, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

You must recite 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and 3 Glory Bes, and ardently attend to thanking him in public. A simple, ‘to Saint Raymond Nonnatus, for a favor received’ on your Twitter account, or in a Tumblr post, works just fine. Keep your white candle lit for the whole of the nine days that you recite the novena. If your candle goes out or otherwise burns out, replace it. Don’t go looking for trouble or try to get even if you’re seeking an end to slander or gossip, or St Raymond will make sure to chastise you. Some folk prayers in Spanish actually invoke the saint to slap the mouths of people who may speak ill of you, an entirely alarming (and entirely humorous) invocation of this magnificent saint.

Saint Raymond, San Ramón, I thank you for your presence and protection. May all curses, hexes, jinxs, candles, Prayers, wishes, petitions, passive aggression, rudeness, gossip, against me be extinguished, halted, and reflected back to the sender times 10. May I be kept and blessed by your hand and grace. I implore you to place my pleas at the feet of the father and to remember my name and keep it sacred as I have kept yours.

I ask this favor in the name of God, the father, the Son, and the Holy spirit. May my wishes be blessed and carried by the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe, by Saint Judas Thadeous, by Saint Michael, by El Santo Niño de Atocha, by Saint Joseph, and by the litany of heavenly saints, angels, martyrs, virgins, doctors, and bishops, be they know or unknown to me.

I thank you San Ramón, and I shall encourage prayer and devotion to you for as long as I can sing the praises of God on High.
