Prayer For Those Who Hurt You

Lord, I pray that you will give me the strength to forgive. Help me to see beyond the pain and to recognize the humanity in the person who hurt me. Grant me the courage to move forward and the wisdom to learn from this experience. Forgiveness is not always easy, but I trust you will guide me through this journey.

Well, this is a tough one, isn’t it?  Why on earth would you want to pray for someone who’s hurt you, when all you really want is for them to pay for what they did?

Why would you pray for those who wronged you when they don’t seem the least bit bothered?

I’ve been through some deep, psychological pain at the hands of someone else, and the last thing I wanted was to go before God and pray for them.

I mean, why does God even want us to pray for them when they’ve done such awful things? Why does He expect something so painful from us?

    The truth is…

    • sitting in the pain and blaming them
    • defining our life by what they did
    • making it our life’s purpose to make sure everyone knows how wrong they were

    …will only increase our pain.

Prayer For Hurting Someone You Love

Lord my Refuge, I am before You now shocked and hurt beyond belief. Someone has deeply hurt me, and if that was not enough, their actions were unbelievably hateful. I find it hard to believe that I could bring out that much spitefulness in another human. I must assume that the enemy is using this person for some horrible plan he is playing out in my life.

You have allowed this; therefore, I must stand strong in You. I am Your beloved, and I do not want to avenge the wrong done me. Please heal my heart and help me not to be taken down by this evil. Renew my mind and enable me to love and move beyond this traumatic event. Amen.

Lord of unfailing love, I am grieving the loss of my relationship with my family member. They have turned on me, and I can truthfully say that I do not know why. Your Word gives clear direction on how to love Your enemies. I never imagined a member of my family would become this, but they have. I know You want me to forgive them, and I am willing but need Your help to make it to that point.

I pray that You will pour out Your love on me. Let it overflow so that I can feel it coursing through my veins and healing every wound they inflicted. I need Your love to be my strength as I respond to such an unloving action. Strangers we can walk away from, but family, Lord? Grant me healing and empower me to love my enemy according to Your will. Amen.

Living God, look upon Your child and be merciful to me in my trial. My life has been devastated by the wrong done to me. I want to forgive the person who hurt me, but the wounds are deep, and I cannot find healing. I pray that You redeem me from this oppression and direct my steps through Your Word.

Please don’t let iniquity have dominion over me. Make Your face shine upon me and guide me to healing and a forgiving heart. I pray You direct my steps and be the light upon my path amid this horrible situation. Guide me to the safe haven of Your loving arms. Amen.

Jesus, my Savior, You are my precious Light in the darkness. Bring me out of this time of darkness and hurt. Heal my wounds with the balm of Your love. As I deal with this hurt done against me, my life is in turmoil. Jesus, You came to guide my feet in the way of peace.

You saved me and reconciled me to God and brought peace. I pray You please move amid this hurtful conflict and direct my feet again into the way of peace. My heart is Yours; please cleanse it of all hurt, resentfulness, and bitterness. Lead me to Your place of peace. Amen.

Prayer For Someone Who Betrayed You

Dear Lord, you know how hard it is to do what you ask in this verse. You know because you did it. You blessed those who cursed you, even as you suffered in agony on the cross. You asked the Father to forgive those who were torturing you to death.

And you ask me to imitate you in this behavior. I must confess that part of me just doesn’t want to do this. I want to ignore your command, Lord. I want to pretend as if it’s not really for me. Yet your word is clear.

Help me to bless those who curse me and pray for my enemies. Yes, I ask for the grace to pray for global enemies, for those who would continue to want to hurt me and my fellow citizens. But I also ask you to help me pray for the “little enemies” in my life, for people at work who get under my fingernails, for the politicians whose views drive me crazy, for the check-out clerk who didn’t even say “thank you.” May my heart be trained so that my first instinct when someone wrongs me is to lay that person before you in prayer.

Today, Lord, I also want to pray for my brothers and sisters who are confronting enemies who do far more than curse. I pray for those who are facing harassment, torture, and even the possibility of martyrdom because of their faith. Yes, I continue to pray for their deliverance, for justice and protection. But I also pray that you will give them the supernatural ability to love as you call us all to love, even to pray for those who hurt them.

I pray in the name of Jesus, who lived what he commanded. Amen.

Every Night Pray For Those Who Hurt You

    Dear Merciful Lord,

Thank you for your gift of forgiveness. Your only Son loved me enough to come to earth and experience the worst pain imaginable so I could be forgiven. Your mercy flows to me in spite of my faults and failures. Your Word says to “clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” (Col. 3:14) Help me demonstrate unconditional love today, even to those who hurt me.

I understand that even though I feel scarred, my emotions don’t have to control my actions. Father, may Your sweet words saturate my mind and direct my thoughts. Help me release the hurt and begin to love as Jesus loves. I want to see my offender through my Savior’s eyes. If I can be forgiven, so can he. I understand there are no levels to your love. We are all your children, and your desire is that none of us should perish.

You teach us to “let the peace that comes from Christ rule in our hearts.” (Col. 3:15) When I forgive in words, allow your Holy Spirit to fill my heart with peace. I pray this peace that only comes from Jesus will rule in my heart, keeping out doubt and questions. And above all, I am thankful. Not just today, not just this week, but always.

Thank you for the reminder, “Always be thankful.” (Col. 3:15) With gratitude I can draw closer to you and let go of unforgiveness. With gratitude I can see the person who caused my pain as a child of the Most High God. Loved and accepted. Help me find the compassion that comes with true forgiveness.

And when I see the person who hurt me, bring this prayer back to my remembrance, so I can take any ungodly thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. (2 Cor. 10:5) And may the confidence of Christ in my heart guide me into the freedom of forgiveness. I praise you for the work you are doing in my life, teaching and perfecting my faith.

    In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
