Hey there! I’m here to guide you in praying to receive spiritual gifts. I know it may seem a little daunting and your scared, but don’t worry because i’m here to walk with you on this amazing journey. Ok… first of all, why do we talk about spiritual gifts and what purpose do they serve? They are absolutely critical because they help enhance our walk with God through the years. As our faith continues to deepen, the spirit will strengthen us and make us love God even more. Let’s see how all of this works.
Prayer to receive spiritual gifts. We pray for God’s guidance and wisdom in all that He does. This is not a prayer commonly shared aloud, nor one you’ll find in many books, but it is an important prayer. When we are unsure of how to deal with situations, we need to stop and ask God for direction. Before taking action, ask yourself if your approach is reasonable. Then pray that God will provide wisdom and clarity: Dear Heavenly Father. I am so thankful and grateful to you for all you do in my life. I look forward to receiving your help, your special guidance. You are the creator of this wonderful world in which I live and the King of kings. Please bless me with the spiritual gifts that I need to fulfill my purpose on earth. Give me the opportunity to help others and show them Your love, Your power and Your mercy. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Receive Spiritual Gifts
Pray For Spiritual Gifts Scripture
1. I pray for the gift of wisdom
Dear Lord, grant me wisdom so that I may make wise decisions in all aspects of my life. Help me to seek your guidance and trust in your plan for me, as it is written in James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
2. I pray for the gift of discernment
Heavenly Father, grant me the gift of discernment so that I may distinguish between good and evil. Help me to see beyond appearances and understand your will for my life, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 12:10 – “To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits.”
3. I pray for the gift of faith
Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith so that I may trust in you completely and believe in your promises. Help me to have unwavering faith in your power and goodness, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 12:9 – “To another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit.”
4. I pray for the gift of healing
Divine Healer, grant me the gift of healing so that I may bring comfort and restoration to those who are suffering. Help me to be a vessel of your light and love, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 12:9 – “To another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit.”
5. I pray for the gift of prophecy
O Lord, bestow upon me the gift of prophecy so that I may speak your truth with boldness and clarity. Help me to be a voice for the voiceless and a messenger of your divine word, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 12:10 – “To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits.”
6. I pray for the gift of tongues
Holy Spirit, fill me with the gift of tongues so that I may praise you in a language beyond my own understanding. Help me to worship you in spirit and in truth, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 14:2 – “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”
7. I pray for the gift of mercy
Compassionate Father, grant me the gift of mercy so that I may show kindness and forgiveness to those in need. Help me to reflect your mercy and grace in all that I do, as it is written in Romans 12:8 – “if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
8. I pray for the gift of leadership
Lord of Hosts, bestow upon me the gift of leadership so that I may guide and inspire others towards your will. Help me to lead with humility and integrity, as it is written in 1 Timothy 3:5 – “If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?”
9. I pray for the gift of love
I ask the Lord to give me a heart of faith to trust the Spirit and the Spirit’s work in my life, I ask for a heart that desires the gifts of the Spirit for the “common good,” and I ask to be open to the gifts of the Spirit in others. I ask for jealousy of others’ gifts to be quieted in me.
We all seek spiritual gifts, whether we recognize it or not. Whether it be to grow in our relationship with Christ, to improve our current level of service to Him, to witness to others, or even just to stave off boredom, each of us wants gifts that are conducive to spiritual growth and maturity. In Biblical terms spiritual gifts are referred to as the grace of God. These are often times referred to as supernatural and are a guidance from God. In 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, Paul discusses the spiritual gifts within the context of the church. In Biblical terms spiritual gifts are referred to as the grace of God. These are often times referred to as supernatural and are a guidance from God. In 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, Paul discusses the spiritual gifts within the context of the church. Spiritual gifts are the secret to growing in your faith and helping the body of Christ. But it can be intimidating when you don’t have a powerful gifting. If you have ever felt this way, I want to tell you about a simple prayer that helped me achieve my giftings today.
We’ve been praying for spiritual gifts for a long time and it doesn’t seem to be working — so it has to be God’s fault, right? Wrong! There are some subtle misconceptions about spiritual gifts that serve as great roadblocks on our journey to having them. Let’s have a closer look at these misconceptions so we can kick them out the way! Now let’s talk a bit about what spiritual gifts actually are. Spiritual gifts have been given to you by God to serve people in your life, not just to make them feel good, but also to transform their lives. If you read 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 it tells us there are several different categories of spiritual gifts such as the word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, miracles, healings and prophecy. Everyone is born with spiritual gifts. Everyone. You, me, your parents, your friends, your enemies — all of us were created equal and given spiritual gifts. That’s right — all of us have the ability to do “supernatural” works. But we’re not allowed to use them yet because we can’t differentiate between good and evil just yet.
God of Love, fill me with the gift of unconditional love so that I may love others as you have loved me. Help me to reflect your love in all my interactions and relationships, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 13:2 – “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”
1 Corinthians 14:1
All of us have different stories around our experience of the Holy Spirit personally and communally. Sometimes these are wonderful stories, and sometimes they are stories of confusion or pain. So I would submit to you an exercise that I hope proves helpful and healing not just for your personal experience with the Spirit, but the corporate experience at Immanuel.
Every few weeks, I read through 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 and pray through each verse. I pray that my gifts would build up the church. I always first ask for the gift of love.
As we continue in this season of prayer for our church, read these verses, pray these prayers, ask for the gifts of the Spirit. As you read through the list in this text, ask for the gifts yourself, but also ask them for our church. Ask God for Immanuel to be a church with members who have wisdom, knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, works of miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues and interpretation of tongues. Be open to what this might mean for us. Offer any fear to the Lord in trust of the Spirit’s work in us.
Remember—the gifts are given as there are needs in the church: “to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” When I pray for the gifts of the Spirit in our church, I’m not praying for power or acknowledgement, I’m praying for needs that cannot be met in our own strength or resources to be met through us by the power of the Spirit. Let’s join together this week and ask that Immanuel be a place where the Spirit is able to use us to meet the needs of God’s people.
