Prayer For Backsliders
Dear Lord,
I pray for all the backsliders in this world. I know it’s easy to feel like you’re alone and that nobody understands what you’re going through. But God does understand, and he knows all about the pain of sin and the struggle to stay close to him.
I pray that you’ll bring comfort to those who are hurting today, and that you will help them find the strength they need to keep fighting on their journey toward your love.
Amen
Dear Lord,
We know that you are faithful and just. Please bless the backslider who has fallen from your grace, and help him or her to come back to you. Give them the strength to repent, and be willing to accept their repentance. We pray that you will draw them close to yourself again so they can feel your love and mercy. Amen
Dear God,
I pray for the backsliders in my life. Those who have turned their backs on you and the promises they made to you. I pray that you would draw them back to yourself, bringing them into the fold of your loving arms. I ask that you would show them your love and mercy by sending a prophet to speak with them, just as you sent John the Baptist to speak with Herod.
I pray for those who have forgotten about your love for them, those who have lost sight of the path they were meant to take. I pray that they would remember their promises to be good and kind people and embrace those promises again.
I pray for those who have strayed from your light because they couldn’t see or didn’t want to see how much better things could be if they stayed true to their word and stayed true to themselves. I pray that those who have strayed from you will come home once again so that we can all grow together in love and peace.
Father, we come to you today in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior who died for our sins and rose again. We pray for those who have fallen away from you and have turned their backs on your ways.
We ask that you would give them an opportunity to be brought back into the fold of your church and into your loving arms. We ask that you would reach out to them through one of us, but also through many others who may not even realize they are being used by you to bring these people back into the fold.
We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen
Dear Lord,
Help me to remember that you love me, even when I don’t love myself. Help me to remember that no matter how far away I get from you, you are always waiting for me with open arms whenever I decide to return home.
Help me to remember that the path of life is not about arriving at some destination or achieving a certain goal; it’s about the journey itself and how we make our way along that path. Help me to remember that your love is unconditional, and so am I.
Help me to remember that nothing can separate me from your love, not even my own sins or mistakes. Help me to remember that your forgiveness is infinite and unconditional, and so am I.
Help me to remember that every day is another chance to start over again on the right foot and do better than before; there is no such thing as “too late” for anyone who seeks your forgiveness in earnest prayer. Help me to remember this today—and every day after today—for as long as I live!
Dear Lord,
I pray that you will guide me in my walk with you. I want to be your child, but sometimes I fail and stray from the path that you have laid out for me. I know that it is not easy to continue on in faith when I am feeling weak or discouraged. Please give me strength to continue on with this journey of life and faith.
I pray that you will help me remember to rely on you, even when things seem hopeless or confusing. Let me keep my eyes on your promises and not get distracted by the world around me. Let me stand firm in our relationship so that I may be a beacon of hope for others who have lost their way in life.”
Dear God,
We come before you today to ask for your forgiveness, and to ask that you make us whole again. We have strayed from your path, and we know that we cannot make it on our own. We have sinned against you many times, and we know that there is nothing we can do to earn back your love. But we also know that because of Christ’s sacrifice for us, you will always forgive us if we turn back to you and ask for your mercy.
Please help us remember what it was like when we were walking with you in the light. Help us remember how good it felt to be close to you and doing your will. Help us remember how much joy there was in our lives when we were doing what was right in front of us, instead of focusing on ourselves or our own desires.
We pray this prayer today as an act of faith—that one day soon enough won’t matter anymore—so that someday soon we can truly be free from all sin and live wholeheartedly in your presence forever!

Prayer For Backsliders – Repent and Be Restored
It happens to many Christians so never throw in the towel and walk away from God, thinking it’s over.
When the enemy tries to make you feel unworthy of God’s love because you returned to something you did in the past, ignore him.
The devil is a liar and he has been crushed by Christ.
You are not alone. God wants to walk with you and restore you because His mercy is endless.
Call to Him and pray for help when you’ve backslidden. This is a sign of strength when you look outward for divine assistance.
Jesus went to the Cross for every mistake a person could ever make. There is nothing that surprises Him.
No matter how badly you may have fallen from God, raise your hand and admit it, then allow the Holy Spirit to work within you to bring about a glorious renewal!
Prayer For When You’ve Backslidden
“Dear God, I come before You and admit that I have fallen short. You know that I have missed the mark and fallen back into my old ways. I don’t want to live like this anymore. Please forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Wash me in Your love and mercy right now. I bind and rebuke the plans of the enemy against my life. I resist his sinful strategies against me. Lord, fill me with Your strength so that I can stand against his deception. Empower to live right before You in all that I do. I want to live for You and bring You all the honour and glory. In Jesus Name I pray, amen.”

How do you pray after backsliding?
Prayer after backsliding comes down to one’s heart. The key is that their heart is open to genuinely changing and turning from their mistakes. God is quick to come to the rescue of those who are broken and are surrendered to Him.
Here is a quick prayer you can say if you are a backslider:
“Dear God, I am sorry. Please forgive me for my sins. I reach out and call on Your mercy. Fill me up with Your peace and strength. Heal my heart for I look to You as my only Source of true hope. Lead me daily through this journey of restoration. I trust that You have heard this prayer and thank You. Amen.”
Can backsliders be forgiven?
This is a question that is commonly asked by Christians. According to 1 John 1:9 a backslider can be forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness. The key is that their heart is right. That they are genuinely repenting and seeking true restoration.
The price that Jesus paid for our mistakes is so high that no level of sin could ever overtake it. God’s mercy and forgiveness is bountiful and there for the taking by backslider who asks.
Anyone who has backslidden should turn to God today. His arms are open wide for them no matter what they have done.
How do you stop backsliding from God?
The way to stop backsliding is to maintain your relationship with God on a daily basis. Just as your physical body needs food daily, your spirit also needs nourishment.
Examine your faith every single day. Take time to read God’s Word and to pray in order to build your relationship with God.
No one is perfect so if you find yourself drifting from God, quickly repent and receive God’s immediate forgiveness.
Stay plugged into godly relationships. Go to church and study the Word of God. Keep your walk with God growing stronger by the day.
Life is not easy for any Christian. It takes perseverance so push through the trying and tempting moments in life. Run your race to win.
God is faithful. Take time to remember what He has done for. If He did it before, He will do it again. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
How do you deal with a backslider?
It’s important to walk in love with someone who is a backslider from God. They’re broken and they need God’s love to restore them.
It they are willing, help them to resist and rebuke whatever beliefs and actions led them to relapsing. Find scripture, such as the verses on this page, that they can read daily to build up their faith in God.
It’s important to remind them that no matter how badly they feel, beating themselves up will never bring about restoration. Only turning to God and repenting will lead them down the path to restoration.
