In 1906, an American evangelist named William J. Seymour started preaching about holiness in Los Angeles at a small storefront church called Bethel Temple.
Seymour’s preaching was so popular that it attracted attention from other churches in Southern California like First Church of Christ Scientist and Second Baptist Church, who then invited him to share his message with their congregations as well. At one point during this time period, over 15,000 people were attending services at Bethel Temple every Sunday!
