In the canon of scripture, the number 22 has a special significance. God made His covenant with Moses. He wrote his law on two stone tablets and gave them to the Israelites in Exodus 34:1-4. These were called the Ten Commandments. And at the head of the Ten Commandments was an admonition—”Remember”, “22nd day” (Exodus 20:8). In Hebrews 9:4, we are told that Jesus Christ is our High Priest who had obtained eternal redemption for us—that He obtained it as our High Priest on “the 22nd day of the month [Tishri].”

The number 22 is found in the Bible, as well as many other religious texts. It’s a prime number, meaning that it can only be divided by itself and 1. The Bible also contains two other prime numbers: 7 and 13.
In the second chapter of Genesis, Jacob had his famous dream where he saw a ladder with angels climbing up and down on it. In the dream, he saw a “gate” in heaven—this gate is often seen as the entrance to heaven, which is why it has been painted on many churches around the world. The gate was made out of a single pearl, which is another reference to 22 because pearls are made out of layers upon layers of organic material. He grew up as an Egyptian prince but learned about his true heritage from Jethro, his father-in-law. After killing an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew slave, Moses fled Egypt and spent 40 years wandering in the desert before being called by God to lead His people out of slavery and into freedom.
The number 22 is significant because it represents 2 times 11—the two tablets Moses received on Mt. Sinai, which contained all of God’s commandments for mankind; and 11 is also significant because it represents 2 times 5: there are 5 books of Moses (Genesis through Deuteronomy) plus 1 book each for Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel through 2 Kings (which we call 1 Samuel through 2 Kings), Ezra through Malachi (which we call Ezra through Malachi).
