The 4 Gospels

John the Baptist
John the Baptist was a prophet of the Jewish people who baptized Jesus, prophesied about his coming and announced his own life as a model for repentance. He was also known as John the Precursor, or “Forerunner” in Latin (John 1:23).
John was born six months before Jesus and was therefore older by one generation—his parents were Elizabeth and Zechariah, both descendants of Aaron (Luke 1:5-23; see also Matthew 3:1-11). He lived in the southern part of Israel at Aenon near Salim (John 1:28), where he preached to those who had gathered there to hear him speak—a crowd that included many Pharisees and Sadducees.
Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene is considered a saint by Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican churches. She is known for having been present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ (Matthew 27:56), as well as being the first person to whom he appeared after his resurrection (John 20:1-18). Mary Magdalene was also among the women who went to visit Jesus’ tomb on the third day following his burial and later became an apostle herself.
The relationship between Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ remains unclear; some scholars believe that they were married while others dispute this claim.
The disciples
The disciples were the twelve chosen followers of Jesus who followed him everywhere and learned from him. They taught people about Jesus’s teachings, and their lives showed how powerful the gospel could be in their lives.

He wrote 13 New Testament books including Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians and Galatians.
Stephen, first Christian martyr
Stephen is the first Christian martyr, whose death he prayed for. He was stoned to death by religious leaders in Jerusalem because he had performed miracles and spoke boldly against their sins.
Stephen also had faith, which meant he could be full of the Holy Spirit. This means that Stephen had a special power or ability to do things that other people couldn’t do because he had this gift inside him.
The apostle James, son of Zebedee
James was one of the Twelve Apostles and the brother of John the Apostle. He is revered as a saint in Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Anglican churches.
James was one of Jesus’ inner three disciples (along with Peter and John), who were present at some of his most famous teachings, including the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7) and showing mercy towards sinners. James is traditionally considered the first pope or bishop of Jerusalem.
In addition to being a leader within Judaism, Christians believe that it was through James that God first spoke to humanity after creating Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:26-27: “Then God said: ‘Let us make man in our image according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fishes (and) birds!’…So God created man in his own image; male-female created he them.” Although this passage refers specifically to men and women rather than gender identity specifically, some Biblical scholars have suggested that it may also indicate something about transgender or intersex individuals as well.:
Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother
Peter and Andrew were brothers. They both followed Jesus, but Peter became the first pope. Andrew is also known as Simon’s brother, and he too followed Jesus.
Peter was given the nickname Simon Bar-Jonah (the son of Jonah). The meaning of this name is unclear, but it may relate to Jesus saying that Peter would deny him three times before the cock crows twice—a phrase that appears in all four Gospels (Matthew 26:34; Mark 14:30; Luke 22:34; John 18:27).
Barnabas
Barnabas was a Cypriot Jew, born in Cyprus and named Joseph. He is mentioned in the Bible as a Levite and one of the early Christian leaders in Jerusalem. He sold a field he owned and gave the money to the apostles. Barnabas was also known for his friendship with Paul, who later described him as “a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith.”

Jesus Christ
