There are many examples of families praying together, even before the birth of Jesus Christ.
In the Old Testament, for example, we see Abraham praying with his family:
“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said unto him, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.” (Genesis 22:1-2)
Abraham’s wife Sarah also prayed with her husband during this difficult time: “And it came to pass after these things that God did tempt Abraham…” (Genesis 22:1)
Although Abraham’s son Isaac was not actually sacrificed in this story—God provided a ram for sacrifice instead—the story illustrates how important family prayer is in the Bible.

Family Prayers In The Bible
A Prayer for the Children
For children, we pray:
- Bless them. We pray that God will bless our children with good health and strength, both physical and mental. We pray that they will be able to grow up in an environment where they can feel safe and loved. We pray that they will have the guidance necessary to make sound decisions when it comes time for them to make their own way in the world. And we pray that they may enjoy a long life full of love and happiness!
A Prayer for the Husband
Pray for your husband to be strong and confident in his abilities, so that he may lead the family with wisdom. Pray that he would be a good father, leading by example and with grace. Pray for guidance for your husband so that he can make wise decisions and not be overcome by fear or greed. Pray that God gives him strength during difficult times, when it seems like every choice is right or wrong. Finally, pray that your husband will love you as Christ did the church: unconditionally and passionately; but also patiently and joyfully through all circumstances of life—even those which seem to threaten our very existence as a couple or family unit!
A Prayer for the Wife
A Prayer for the Wife
Dear Lord, please be with my wife today. Pray for her physical health. Give her strength to get through the day, and bless her so she can be at her best for others. Pray that she never feels alone or forgotten in your love as she makes decisions and faces challenges. I pray that this marriage will grow stronger each day you’re together, because you’ve brought two people together who are supposed to be together forever! And lastly, dear God…please help me become a better husband each day too!
A Prayer for the Parents
- Parents are an example for their children.
- Parents should be respected and not scorned.
- Children are to obey their parents in all things.
- God calls parents to love their children and raise them in the ways of God.
Parents are to teach their children these truths as well:
A Prayer for Siblings
- A Prayer for Siblings Who Are Not Close
- A Prayer for Siblings Who Are Close, But Separated By Distance
- A Prayer For The Future Of Your Family
- A Prayer For Safety and Protection of Your Family
- A prayer for your family to be together. (And also pray that they always remember that it’s not healthy to stay apart.)
In any case, God is always listening—so go ahead and start speaking!
A Prayer for Those Who Long to Be Married and Have a Family
It’s important to remember that family isn’t just about marriage. It’s also about the relationships we have with our parents, siblings, and other extended family members. As you think about this prayer for those who long to be married and have a family, remember that God cares about your desires. He wants you to have a spouse and children of your own someday—but not just yet! He wants you to wait for His timing in all things.
The Bible tells us that Hannah prayed for Samuel (1 Samuel 1:11-28). She wanted him so badly that she cried out loud from her pain over it. Hannah went before God with her tears; she poured out her heart in prayer as if nothing else mattered but what she needed most at the time: a child to raise up as her own son. Like Hannah did when praying for Samuel, we must remember our focus is not on ourselves but rather on how best we can serve God by living righteously and loving others well through both big decisions and daily actions in everyday life.”
A Prayer to Lift Up a Struggling Marriage
The Bible has a lot to say about the family. It’s clear that God cares deeply about the well-being of our families and wants us to take care of them.
Family is important.
The Bible has a lot to say about the family. God created marriage as an institution, and he expects us to treat it with great reverence and respect. He also promises that through faithfulness in marriage we will have joy, peace, and fulfillment (Galatians 5:22). When marriage gets tough, however, it can be easy to lose sight of those promises—but they are still there! And so is God’s will for marriage: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife”—the two become one—and “they become one flesh” (Ephesians 5:31).
Praying for your family helps you grow closer together as individuals as well as stronger together as a unit. It gives you an opportunity for honest communication with each other about what’s really going on inside each person’s heart or mind—and sometimes that means talking through hurts from the past before moving forward toward healing them!
Bible Verses About Family
The Bible is full of wisdom that can help us in our own family life. Whether you are a parent, grandparent or child, these verses will encourage you to draw closer to God and your loved ones.
- Proverbs 17:6: “Grandchildren are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.”
- Proverbs 15:20: “A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish man despiseth his mother.”
- Proverbs 10:1-2: “The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding…to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to youth.” * (New International Version)
- Proverbs 3:11-12 “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary when reproved by him. For whom the Lord loves he corrects; even as a father corrects his son…” (NIV)
No matter what your circumstances, you can find a prayer that fits.
There are a lot of prayers that you can use to lift your spirits and remind yourself that you are not alone. For example, in the Bible Jesus says: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is such a comforting thought for someone who is tired or stressed. It’s also an inspirational message for anyone who needs a reminder that we have support from other people when life gets tough.
The Bible also contains many prayers like this one: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you.” When people ask me how they can get through hard times, this is often my first suggestion! The Bible tells us again and again how important it is to be thankful no matter what happens in our lives—and these prayers remind us of this truth whenever we need them most!
