This prayer has helped numerous people to either fully recover from their addiction or to manage the problem and live a sober life. Though the prayer is named after St Monica, patron Saint of Alcoholics, it can be used for other addictions too.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord. Intercede for me, dear St. Monica, that God may favorably hear my plea. Grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
St. Monica is a very powerful intercessor for all those to go to her for help.
She was the mother of St. Augustine who is a Doctor of the Church and a highly revered Saint, philosopher and theologian. St. Monica prayed for her wayward son and pagan husband fervently throughout her life.
After 17 years of prayer, St. Augustine converted and eventually became the great Saint we know him as today.
The novena begins on August 18th.

Who is the Patron Saint of Alcoholics
It is possible that the Venerable Matt Talbot is the Patron Saint of Alcoholics who attracts the most attention. Nevertheless, there are a few more avenues that might be pursued in order to seek help. Both Saint Monica and Saint Matthias the Apostle are considered to be saints. In addition, you might wish to consider applying the intercessory abilities of the Saints of Healing to your situation.
Respected and revered One of the twelve children that were born into a destitute household in Ireland was a man named Matt Talbot. Because his father was a frequent drinker and was unable to support for his family, they were forced to relocate from one location to another. Matt, who was just 12 years old at the time, was hired by a beer bottling company to work as a delivery boy. At the age of sixteen, he had already established himself as an alcoholic, just like his father. Over the course of roughly sixteen years, Talbot battled alcoholism, and as a result of his addiction, he neglected both his family and his working life.
Nevertheless, in the year 1884, he had a moment of spiritual enlightenment and made the decision to quit drinking and become sober. His profound faith and commitment to God, which enabled him to resist the temptation to drink and live a life of sobriety, were credited by Talbot as the contributing factors in his rehabilitation. In addition to working as a laborer and devoting a significant portion of his time to acts of charity and prayer, he led a life that was uncomplicated and unassuming. He became well-known for his devotion to assisting others, particularly those who were battling alcoholism, and for his professed religious beliefs.
Following his passing in 1925, a great number of individuals started to consider Talbot to be a sign of hope and inspiration for those who were attempting to recover from addiction treatment. They pray to him for strength and wisdom as they travel the path to sobriety, and they think of him as a role model and an intercessor at this point in their journey.
One of the most well-known aspects of Saint Monica is her unwavering devotion to praying for her son, Saint Augustine of Hippo; however, many people are unaware of the narrative of her childhood. While she was down there, she developed the habit of taking sips of wine. She was frequently sent down to the cellar to draw wine for the family, and she did so frequently. Within a short period of time, she had such a strong craving for wine that she began to consume as much of it as she could whenever the opportunity presented itself. When she was arrested, a family slave confronted her and called her out on her behavior. Due to the fact that she was so embarrassed by what she had become, she decided to give up the habit. After that, she underwent baptism and lived a life that was exemplary in every way.
Matthias, sometimes known as Saint Matthias, was the apostle who succeeded Judas Iscariot, who had betrayed Jesus and then committed suicide later on. After the ascension of Jesus, he was dispatched to spread the message of the Gospel. In order to experience the peace and joy that the Spirit has to provide, he placed a strong emphasis on the necessity of mortifying the desires of the body. He preached that the Holy Spirit would give individuals the ability to exercise self-control over their unhealthy bodily appetites, so allowing them to experience excellent health in both their body and their soul. Due to this particular cause, Saint Matthias is considered to be the patron saint of all those who are battling the addiction of drinking.
