Spiritual Meaning of Apron
In some cultures, it was believed that women who wore aprons were able to give birth without pain because their aprons absorbed the pain and took it away from them. In other cultures, the apron symbolized the protection of the earth and all its creatures. The symbolism of the apron has not changed much over time. Even today, it is used as a symbol of fertility and creation.
The apron can also be seen as an ancient form of protection. It is often worn by cooks because it protects their clothes from stains in the kitchen or when they are working with messy foods such as poultry or meat products. The apron also protects against cuts from knives or spoons while cooking and sometimes even against burns from hot pans on top of a stovetop burner unit!
An apron holds much weight in freemasons. Aimed at the slightly more educated freemason, the apron is worn during the attainment of the third degree. To hold such an apron is a sign of authority and in most cases, it was used by masons who had reached a certain rank. Thus, it is a clear signal of historical age, institutional mighty and command. A freemason who had reached the point of wearing an apron with an emblem on it is a sign of great honor and was believed to be a command and possession of more powers than the rest of the other masons.
Symbolism of An Apron
The colour of the freemason’s apron is generally white to signify purity and goodness. There are different types of freemason aprons. The aprons are generally rectangular in shape and similar to those that were commonly worn by the ancient stonemasons to protect themselves. Crucially, during stonemason times, the apron was worn to carry belongings and protect against dust. Freemason aprons are notably different; the aprons worn are generally white lambskin, which projects a sense of pureness in life. In fact, there is a sense of innocence. Some aprons are more decorated, showing the high rank of the masons.
An apron worn by for example, the Master of a lodge will be colourful and display the emergence of his power through its complex design. The apron is normally delivered as a gift from the lodge as part of the initiation. The apron is symbolic as it must be kept clean and each mason will wear the apron in a certain way according to the level they have achieved. The apron is a hardline representation of being a member of the Freemasons.
In the traditional setup, an apron was used when performing ordinary chores like cooking and washing. The art of making the apron more fashionable—in the modern style—began in 1960s in the USA. However, nowadays, wearing aprons is considered to have a more protective role against food during cooking or surgery. There existed a common belief that if somebody wore an apron inside out, then that was presumed to be a sign of good luck.
On the other hand, if it happened to fall off suddenly without any reason, then it was deemed to symbolize bad luck. This was a common belief in Europe. In addition to luck and bad luck, there was a common belief that if a woman happened to dry her hands using another woman’s apron, then that was a clear sign that she would soon fall in love.
There was also the belief that if people of the same gender happened to dry their hands using the same apron, it would lead to quarrelling among them. Aprons were believed to have emblems, symbols or badges that had some meaning and had superstitious implications. Emblems upon aprons were believed to portray purity if they were of a white color, while on the other hand, an emblem such as a crown was a sign of royalty. A badge would at times be used on aprons and it was a sign of identity.
In some instances where emblems were used on aprons, it was believed that a blue ribbon on an apron was a sign of charity. Aprons were also worn during times of war and this was a clear sign of power and might. In Roman times, the tassels attached to aprons were believed to provide protection against bad luck. Adding more interesting facts, aprons were thought to provide clarity before launching into the chaos of the day.
In some traditions, it was an honor to wear an apron; at times, this allowed the fraternity of the elites and an apron was given as a gift to depict a bond of friendship. An apron given due to a job (such as a chef) is thought to increase one’s intelligence, making them smarter and more able.
Apron In Hebrew Meaning
If there is something that I like, it’s a nice apron. I learned to cook at a young age, and I love to do it. And I learned to cook for a lot of people since we were a big family. The first time I put on an apron, it was just something cool to wear. But the purpose and meaning of it have changed as I’ve grown older.
Hosting people in my house and cooking for them excites me and brings the best out of me. I go all out! From the food and dessert to the setting of the table,. Trust me, it’s a whole-day thing.
The definition of an apron is as follows: An apron is a functional accessory that layers over one’s outfit to protect one’s clothes and skin from incidental stains and marks. Apron styles adapt to the tastes of the times to suit the values and jobs of the current culture. The practical, fashionable, and sentimental nature of the apron has made it a cherished accessory for centuries. Because aprons provide comfort, protection and a sense of preparedness, the apron will always be a go-to garment for people who serve, work, clean, entertain and create. What a beautiful definition with lots of spiritual meaning for those who understand that their main purpose on earth is to serve.
When a woman discovers the beauty of servanthood, her approach and perspective towards others change dramatically. The meaning of her whole world takes her to a different level, touched by real love.
The Kingdom is all about servanthood, and our greatest example is in Jesus, Mark 10:45 ”For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus’ heart and commitment to serve brought us salvation and eternal life. It makes me wonder if he wore an apron.
As women in the Kingdom of God, we know very well that we have been called to serve .Galatians 5:13 says ”For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” The secret to serving effectively is to do it with love. It has been said many times that to love and serve is simply a choice; no one can obligate you.
Now, let’s take a quick look at the other side of servanthood, one that is not very pretty. To serve one another can be troubling at times, as the demand is high and it requires us to be intentional. Why? Because serving those we love is easy, but there is a hidden beauty and treasure that is only discovered when we decide to love and serve those who have hurt us, mistreated us, defamed us, etc.
My friend, the apron challenges you to serve beyond your comfort zone and beyond your feelings. It challenges you to keep the right attitude and check yourself. We must serve with the attitude of Christ, ”You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave…” (Phil. 2:5-7 NLT).
To serve has the potential to change a heart without words!
We saw the meaning of the apron, let’s apply it to ourselves and use it as the armor of a servant. It will serve as a layer to protect your clothes and keep it white for his coming, ”He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault” (Eph. 5:27).
It will help to guard your heart. Wearing that apron will help you adapt your service according to the season and place you are in. I believe it will also be a much-needed reminder at times of glory in order to stay humble and not look for someone to serve us, but rather to always be aware of those we can serve. As women, we want all the bases to be covered, and guess what? The apron does just that for those who serve. It will keep them clean, protected, and ready.
Sermons on Aprons
In the United States, aprons are typically associated with women. However, there is a spiritual meaning behind the apron and it has nothing to do with gender.
An apron is actually a symbol of protection from evil spirits. This can be seen in many cultures around the world and dates back centuries. In some parts of Africa, people wear aprons over their clothes to protect them from evil spirits. The same can be said for many other cultures, including China and South America.
In China, it’s believed that if you’re wearing an apron when you leave your home, then any evil spirits will not be able to enter your home while you’re gone because they’ll be stopped by your protective clothing. This practice has been around for quite some time but is still practiced today despite modernity’s advances in technology like cell phones and social media platforms like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp where we can communicate instantly with our loved ones no matter what time zone they are living in or where they might be located geographically speaking on this planet Earth!
Aprons also provide comfort and a sense of preparedness, so the apron will always be a go-to garment for kingdom women, and it will keep us up to date with kingdom fashion. No one will have to wait for you to be ready if you keep it on. Sometimes, at the end of our day, we might be tired and be tempted to take it off. The same can happen in servanthood. But please don’t take it off; I urge you to keep it on. This is not about who notices you; this is not about the applause you might receive; this is not about titles, my servant friend; this is about others. It has everything to do with carrying out the Great Commission. ”Do nothing out of selfish ambition… Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Phil. 2:3–4).
I have never looked at an apron the same way as I did that day I put it on as a child. I continue to buy and collect them because they remind me that I was called to serve inside and outside my home.
