I haven’t had the chance to really get to know my brother in heaven too well, but what I can say is that he’s such a great guy. I don’t know many people who would go through so much trouble to make sure their family was taken care of before dying, but that’s what my brother did.

I want to pray for my brother in heaven. My little brother, Drew, died when he was 6 years old. He was diagnosed with a degenerative disease called spinal muscular atrophy, and he lost the ability to walk, talk, and eat by the time he was 4. Even though it was hard on us as kids when our family had to leave him at home while we went out to do things as a family, we all loved him so much.

When he died, I felt so sad that I couldn’t be there for him anymore. But then I realized something: my parents still brought him everywhere with them! They talked about him all the time and showed us pictures of him whenever they could—they even made sure to have one of his favorite foods every day at dinner so that he’d always be there with us. It’s like they didn’t lose him at all—he’s still just as much a part of our family as ever before because we never stopped including him in everything we did together!

So today I want you to help me keep remembering Drew too—even though he’s not here with us anymore physically, spiritually he’ll always be close by!

He gave me advice such as: “Don’t try dating before you’re ready,” “Don’t smoke weed,” “Always go home after parties before midnight,” etc., which were all things he learned when he was younger by listening closely to his parents’ wisdom about how not drinking or smoking pot would lead him down better paths later on in life than those two things did for him at first (as well as how going home early would prevent being late for school).
