Prayer for Christening

Prayer for Christening

God, we thank you for this child.

We ask that you bless her and guide her throughout her lifetime. May she always find joy in the simple things of life, as well as the most complex. May she never lose sight of what is truly important, and may she always be guided by your wisdom. Grant her a strong faith in Jesus Christ and help her to understand the importance of serving others and loving them with all of her heart. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Dear Lord,

We are gathered here today to celebrate the christening of this child. We thank you for the gift of life and for blessing us with this child. May we always be worthy of your love, and may we always strive to be good stewards of your gifts.

We pray that you will watch over this child throughout her life, protecting her from harm and guiding her toward righteousness. Grant her peace and strength in times of trouble, and help her to find joy in every day.

Bless Mommy and Daddy with a special love for this child, one that will last forever. Give them wisdom in raising her so that she can grow up to be a good person who uses the gifts she has been given to make others’ lives better through service to others. Help them remember what it was like when they first held their baby girl close in their arms—the smell of clean clothes mixed with baby powder; the softness of skin still new enough not yet to feel rough or tough; the wonderment of holding something so tiny but still so beautiful—and help them relive those moments whenever they hold their daughter again in years to come.

We ask these things through Christ our Lord

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your love and the grace of calling us to know you. We ask Oh Lord that this child will grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding to know you. We ask that from henceforth, the Holy Spirit will continually be your guardian.

Prayer for Baptism for Adults

Prayer 1:

Lord, we ask that you guide this child in the path of righteousness, leading them to seek you above all else. May they grow in wisdom as they study your Word and learn to discern your will for their life.

Prayer 2:

Heavenly Father, we pray that the Holy Spirit will be a constant presence in this child’s life, guarding their hearts and minds against the temptations of this world. Help them to walk in your ways and grow in faith each day.

Prayer 3:

Dear Lord, we ask that you surround this child with godly influences, mentors who will help nurture their faith and encourage them to seek you wholeheartedly. May they be surrounded by love and support as they grow in their relationship with you.

Prayer 4:

Lord, we pray that you would grant this child a spirit of discernment, that they may recognize truth from falsehood, light from darkness. Help them to navigate the challenges of this world with confidence and courage, knowing that you are always with them.

Prayer 5:

Heavenly Father, we ask for protection over this child’s mind, heart, and soul. Shield them from the attacks of the enemy and strengthen them to stand firm in their faith. May they be a beacon of light in a world that is filled with darkness.

Prayer 6:

Lord, we pray for perseverance and endurance for this child, that they may run the race set before them with unwavering faith. Help them to trust in your promises and know that you are always faithful to those who seek you.

As it says in Proverbs 2:6-7, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity.” May this child grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding as they seek you with all their heart.

Prayer for christening party

Verse 22 and Psalm 127
I thank You for this child, Heavenly Father, knowing that children are a gift from the Lord. We bless (child’s name) with a divine blessing during this christening and pray that they grow up to fear the Lord. Assist their parents and God’s parents in raising them so that they would follow the right path into old age. We pray, “Bless this day of christening,” Amen.

1 John 3:4
We thank You, Lord, for sending this kid into our lives and ask that You keep him or her safe. On this day of christening. We pray that the enemy’s schemes to end his or her life will crumble as they mature. We rejoice in Your divine love for Your child, and we declare that they will walk in Your truth. We hope that Your child will be guided into spiritual maturity in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Psalm 23:6, Genesis 1:28, and
Dear Lord, You blessed Adam and Eve and commanded them to “be fruitful and multiply” after creating them. We are grateful to You for this kid, who is a living example of the gifts You spoke at the start of creation. Thus, in the name of Jesus, I hope that on this day of the child’s baptism, (child’s name) will likewise multiply and bear good fruit in their lives. Amen. May Your kindness envelop them throughout their entire existence.

1 Peter 2:9; Isaiah 54:13
We thank You, God, for this child and ask that You keep them always under Your heavenly protection. I pray that on this day of their baptism, the person will mature and actively learn about the ways of Christ, realizing that they are Your royal priesthood. I thank You because she/he will experience immense inner serenity as they get to know You. Our hearts’ prayer is that You keep this child safe and encircled by Your light forever, Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Christening Prayer for Baby Girl

Dear God,

We come before you this day, humbled by your presence, grateful for your mercy and guidance. We know that you are with us in all of our days, but we especially need you today.

We ask that you guide [name] as he or she grows up and makes choices in life. May the lessons learned in childhood become the foundation upon which [name] builds his or her character and life path.

Help us to raise this child with love and compassion, so that he or she will always be able to find joy, peace, and comfort with his or her family. And help us as parents to be strong enough to set boundaries when needed and loving enough never to lose our temper when faced with challenges from our child’s actions.

We pray for this child not only on this day but every day from here until their graduation from high school—and beyond! We pray for the strength to be good parents so that this child can grow up knowing that he or she is loved unconditionally by both parents despite any mistakes made during childhood; because we believe children who feel safe at home will grow up into adults who are secure enough in themselves not

We thank you for allowing us to gather together today.

We thank you for this child, who has been entrusted to our care.

We ask that you watch over this child and guide him/her through the years with your wisdom and love.

We pray that we may be examples of Christ to him/her, and that our lives will be a reflection of His love in all that we say and do.

We pray that he/she will grow up as an example of God’s love to others.

Amen

Thank you, God, for the gift of this child.

We pray that he or she will not be afraid to ask questions, and that they will always seek to understand the world around them.

May they be curious and open-minded, and may they never be afraid of what others think.

Teach them to love one another and to work together for the good of all.

Give them the strength to hold fast to their beliefs when faced with opposition, so that they can stand up for what is right and just in this world.

Help them to find their own voice so that they can speak out against injustice wherever they see it.

Grant them peace within themselves so that they may find peace in their relationships with others.

May your everlasting love surround our child always, Amen.

Christening Prayers and Poems

Best Poems for Christenings
What are some classic poems suitable to be shared or read aloud at christenings? Poets haven’t often written about christenings as such, but many poets have written touchingly, humorously, or powerfully about the arrival of a new life into this world. Here’s our pick of the best poems for reading at christenings

William Blake, ‘Infant Joy’.

A baby is born, a little miracle with the gift of life. But what should the infant be called? ‘Joy’, of course, in honour of the joy of new life a baby represents! ‘Infant Joy’ was published in Blake’s 1789 collection Songs of Innocence. It’s noteworthy for being spoken by both the new-born baby and its mother: ‘I am but two days old’, speaks the joyous infant, while another voice – the infant’s mother – responds with the question, ‘What shall I call thee?’

As with so many of his poems, in ‘Infant Joy’ Blake is giving a voice to the (literally) voiceless. Given the question ‘What shall I call thee?’ and the joyousness accompanying the new baby’s birth, ‘Infant Joy’ isn’t a bad place to begin our pick of poems for christenings.

Christina Rossetti, ‘I Know a Baby’.

This is one of the best lullabies in the English language, if we grant that by ‘best’ we mean ‘written by one of the best poets’. If you favour something a little more sentimental, look no further than this charming piece of poetry by one of the Victorian era’s foremost poets: ‘I know a baby, such a baby, / Round blue eyes and cheeks of pink, / Such an elbow furrowed with dimples, / Such a wrist where creases sink…’

prayer for christening

God, our Creator,

We thank you for this child.

May your love surround them always.

May they know the joy of your presence in their life and in their heart.

May they grow in wisdom and grace as they learn to know you through their own experience.

May they trust in your guidance and follow it faithfully as they become adults who seek to honor you with their lives.

And finally, may they be open to your call when it comes and make themselves available to you so that they might serve others with compassion and justice in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Lord over all creation. Amen

Dear God,

We thank you for this child.

You have given us a gift of life, and we give thanks for the blessing of this precious little one.

Please watch over this child as they grow and mature.

Please bless them with good health and strength, so that they may live long and happy lives.

Give them wisdom and understanding, so that they may grow up to be good people who make a difference in the world.

Let them know your presence in their life every day, so that they will always know that you are there for them no matter what happens in their lives or ours.

Bless this child with peace and joy today and always! In Jesus’ name we pray: Amen!
