Reflection Of Gods Glory
Today, we’ll continue our look at the book of Isaiah by picking up in chapter 60. After repeatedly stating that the world would be saved through Israel and its Messiah (Isa. 2:1-4; 11:10; 19:16-25; 25:6-8; 45:22-23; 56:1-8), the prophet now emphasizes the redemption of creation through Israel to demonstrate the centrality of Israel’s relationship with God to all of human history.
Isaiah begins by telling Israel to “arise” and “shine” because the Lord’s glory has arrived (v. 1). These words originally pleaded with the postexilic old covenant community to act in faith and enter the Spirit-filled life that the Lord would grant to those who accept Him as Savior. In other words, the prophet knew that God’s people would only be saved if they repented and embraced the light of His glory when the Redeemer King finally came to Zion (see 59:20–21).
Obviously, Isaiah had not even considered for a second that no one would believe in the Messiah when he wrote these words. The Son of David’s sacrifice would bring salvation to those God had chosen before the world was even created, as predicted by Isaiah (Isa. 53:10– 12; see John 6:35–40). Isaiah issued what was essentially an external gospel call, trusting that the Spirit would create faith in God’s elect through His Word, but he did not know who would receive the gift of faith (Eph.
For this reason, Isaiah had faith that the few faithful Israelites who survived the exile would eventually accept the truth. Some of Jacob’s faithful descendants would have faith even on a day of great gloom, and the Lord’s glory would shine brightly upon them (Isa. 60:2). Those faithful Israelites who believed and received the Holy Spirit would be a reflection of God’s glory and a beacon for foreigners seeking “acceptance on [His] altar” (vv. 3–7). Isaiah foretold that once the Jewish remnant accepted the Messiah and put their faith in Him, Gentiles would come to serve Israel and Israel’s God, bringing their wealth with them (vv. 8–9).
In fact, this is the case at the present time. Throughout the first century, many devout Jews (including Mary, Nicodemus, Peter, Thomas, Paul, and others) testified to the Christ’s majesty by putting their faith in Him. For the past two thousand years, people from all over the world have been flocking to Israel to worship its God and its ideal representative, Jesus.
Reflecting God In Our Lives

Self-improvement is impossible. Maintaining our fellowship with the Vine will help us mature into Christlikeness. If we do this, the Spirit’s fruit in our lives will be a direct result of His work in us. There will be no need to artificially create Christlikeness. But the Spirit’s fruit includes such attributes as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22–23a)
Third, make an effort to genuinely care about other people.
A genuine curiosity to know other people better is a rare commodity in a world where people are more interested in themselves and their selfie interests. Reduce your ego-stroking and replace it with genuine curiosity. Pray that you may have God-given grace to see others as He does. And a love for them that matches His own.
Jesus Christ gave his life for his followers, and that’s how we define love.
And we should be willing to give our lives for our friends.
How can God’s love be in someone who has plenty of material goods but doesn’t feel compassion for their fellow human being when they see them in need?

My friend Judy, a young pastor’s wife, had a hard time finding her niche in the church. They didn’t like her because she wasn’t an outspoken person. However, as time has passed, she has come to appreciate the value of her “gift of availability” the most.
