Believe it or not, the book of Enoch was present in the Bible and considered canonical for roughly 1500 years. So, what happened? Why was it removed? What is its content like? And why have interest in this ancient text been revived recently?
I have never read the book of Enoch and I am curious why they would have removed it from the bible.
Have you ever wondered why the Book of Enoch was removed from The Bible? Christ used this book in the Bible to prove that the Antichrist was coming. Some of your ministers though, have stated that it is not a reliable source. Lets investigate why.
Why Was The Book of Enoch Removed From The Bible
Today we read why the book of Enoch was removed from the Bible? Enoch is a fascinating character in the scriptures we read about him in the Book of Genesis in the fifth chapter, he walked with God, and he was not for God took him, and then he’s quoted directly in the Book of Jude Judah.
Of the ungodly things, sinners have said about the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what it says about those people Enoch from the seventh generation of Adam prophesied, saying: Behold the Lord was with Miriam’s of his Kadosh are Holy Ones who will make a judgment on all who are guilty. He will find all infidels for the ungodly acts they’ve committed in a way that is ungodly and for all time.
So this is taken as a direct quote from Enoch, and it’s found in the Book of Enoch. And I’m often asked on the radio, how come that’s not part of the Bible if Enoch is a biblical figure and Jude or Jude quotes him as his Hebrew name would have been how come the books not included in the Bible.
In terms of the Book itself, there are some fragments and Aramaic from the Book of Enoch preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Then it’s the product not just of one man from millennia ago but the product apparently of several stages of writing. the Book of Enoch, however, was greatly revered among early Jews, first second-century Jews, and even right before that and the early followers of Jesus, it was held in high esteem. However, it was never thought of as part of the Canon of Scripture in any Universal way.
In other words, it did not have that divine stamp on it, saying that this is a book that should be part of the Canon of Scripture and therefore was embraced by the community of believers as being authentically Scripture.
Now, look at the Bible in the Old Testament. It will quote from books we don’t have anymore. It makes reference to these books in quotes for them we don’t have them by God’s choice those were not part of the Bible Paul even quotes from secular or pagan poets in the New Testament just because something is quoted doesn’t mean that it’s all inspired it could just be one particular line that’s being referenced as accurate or true or simply a point of reference reaching out to others.
With Enoch, this is something that was revered and that you could argue the way it’s quoted in Jude is preserves some words of Enoch that were passed through the generations you could argue that, but certainly, the Book as we have it as a whole does not go back to Enoch it would be called Su tapa graphical literature which is falsely ascribed that it has a name falsely attributed to it.
So Enoch is certainly not the composer of the entire Book, although perhaps some of his original sayings are preserved in it like what Jude quotes.
But The Book Of Enoch was Removed From The Bible because God never intended to be part of the Bible, and when you read it, you’ll see it has some very unusual, even esoteric things in it, so it’s not wrong to read it. It’s a fascinating read, but it’s not in part included in the Canon of Scripture for a good reason.
What Is Wrong With The Book Of Enoch?
The Book of Judas in the Bible gives evidence from the Book of Enoch in verses 14-15, “And Enoch also prophesied about these, who was in the seventh generation from Adam, saying, Behold, the Lord has come with his millions of saints.” . to judge all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their acts of ungodliness, which they have done without ungodliness, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” But this does not mean that the Book of Enoch is inspired by God and should be in the Bible.
Some believe the Book of Enoch is a lost book of the Bible that was mistakenly not included with the rest of the collection-inspired books. This is mainly perpetuated because the Bible mentions some verses that are found in the Book of Enoch. Here are 10 Facts About The Book Of Enoch.
- The Book Of Enoch Mentions Noah
Enoch chapter 10 verses one through three mentions Noah even though the Bible teaches that Enoch was taken up to heaven years before Noah was born.
It states that then the Most Holy and great one spoke, in the presence of Uriel to Lamech’s son. Lamech and said to him: go to Noah and tell him about the flood. In my name, hide and told him about the time that the entire earth will collapse. A deluge is scheduled to hit the entire earth, and it will wipe out everything that is there.
The Bible never states that Enoch returned to earth after he was translated to heaven, so if he wrote the Book of Enoch. How could he have known about Noah and the flood?
- Azazel Is Blamed For All Evil
In the Book of Enoch chapter 10 verses 8 through 9, God places all the blame for the corruption on earth on a demon named Azazel, it says, and the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that Azazel taught to him ascribe all sin.
The Bible doesn’t mention any other demon besides Lucifer, also known as Satan or the devil, not to say there aren’t any other demons there are. Still, they’re just never named, and Satan is the one who is ultimately blamed for the evils of our world because he is the originator of sin.
Jesus said in 1st John chapter 3 verse 8 he that committeth sin is of the devil for the devil sinneth from the beginning, for this purpose the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil fact.
- Demons Repented Of Their Sins
The Book of Enoch chapter 13 verses 5 through 6 implies that the fallen angels are repentant, stating For from thenceforward they could not speak with him meaning God nor lift their eyes to heaven for shame of their sins for which they had been condemned then I wrote out their petition and the prayer regarding their spirits and their deeds individually and regarding their requests that they should have forgiveness and length
The Bible indicates the opposite because it says the fate of Satan and his angels is Hellfire in Matthew chapter 25 verse 41, stating then shall he also say unto them on the left hand depart from me ye cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels since the devil and his angels are consigned to Hellfire that indicates they are unwilling to repent because everyone who repents from their sins is promised deliverance from destruction in Hell.
Chapter 3 of 2nd Peter, verse 9, states that the Lord does not waiver in his promises as some consider slackness, but is patient for us and not in a position to allow anyone else to Die, but everyone should become repentant.
- Demons No Longer Have Contact With God
Not only does the last verse, which I read from the Book of Enoch, claimed that demons repented, it also states that demons were no longer able to contact God after their initial rebellion stating that they were unable to speak with God or lift their eyes to heaven.
But in job chapter 1, Satan was able to come directly before God in heaven and speak to him about the job and his fidelity just to give you an excerpt of their conversation verses 6 through 9 reads now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord.
Satan also came among them, and the Lord said unto Satan whence comest thou then Satan answered the Lord and said from going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it.
The Lord told Satan have thou thought about my friend Job and said that there is no one as good as him on the earth, a perfect and upright man who is a person who fears God and avoid its sin to avoid its sins, and Satan responded to the Lord and claimed that the job is one to fear God because it does not.
- Heaven Is Described Differently
The Book of Enoch gives a description of God and heaven that is completely unbiblical. The Bible in Revelation chapter 21 and verse 21 describes the ground in the city of heaven as being made of gold. It says the street of the city was pure gold as it was transparent glass. The Book of Enoch chapter 14 verse 10 says its groundwork was of crystal.
This is just one example of the many contradictions the Book of Enoch gives in its description of heaven compared to the Bible. There are many more contained in the Book of Enoch, chapters 14, verses 9 through 25.
- Angels Cannot Enter Into God’s Presence
The Book of Enoch chapter 14, verses 21 through 22, says that none of the Holy Angels could come before the presence of God and see him stating none of the angels entered and looked into His face due to the magnificence and the glory.
Yet Jesus and speaking of little children said the exact opposite in Matthew chapter 18 verse 10, stating take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones for I will tell me that, in the heavens, their angels always see my appearance Father who is in heaven.
- Angels Married Women
In the Book of Enoch, chapters 10 and 12 speak of the Watchers, who were heavenly angels who came down to earth, married women, and had children with them. the world then became corrupted by their evil works, and God sent the flood.
However, this is unbiblical because, in Matthew chapter 22, verse 30, and speaking about those who would be raised from the dead at Jesus’s second coming, Jesus said for in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in
But are as the angels of God in heaven. Therefore a do not marry I’ve even spoken to Christians who believe that this is what Genesis chapter 6 teaches when it talks about the sons of God marrying the daughters of men. But that is a complete misinterpretation of Scripture.
The sons of God represent the followers of God who were the descendants of Seth, and the daughters of men represent worldly women who were the descendants of Cain.
Their Union brought corruption to the world because it compromised the faith of the followers of God. That’s usually what happens when a Christian decides to marry someone who is not a believer. Instead of converting their spouse to God, their spouse converts them back to the world. And that’s why the Bible discourages marriage with unbelievers.
- Angels Are Bound In Heaven
The Book of Enoch, chapter 21, says a desolate place in heaven where angels are bound for eternity. Verses 9 through 10 states Then Uriel answered me one of the Holy Angels who was with me and said unto me Enoch why has thou such fear and of right and I answered because of this fearful place and because of the spectacle of the pain. He said unto me this place is the prison of the Angels, and here they will be imprisoned forever.
This totally contradicts Scripture. The Bible states that one-third of the heavenly angels were cast out of heaven with Satan for siding with him in his rebellion in Revelation chapter 12 verses 3 4 and 9. The Bible never states that there are fallen angels bound in heaven in a place of despair, not to mention the Bible says that the fate of Satan and his angels is destruction in the lake of fire in Matthew chapter 25 verse 41.
Gog as well as Magog to unite them to fight. The number of them is highly similar to the sands from the ocean. They came up over the entire earth. They circled the saints’ camp around. The one that will be burning on earth Revelation chapter 20, verses 7-10 mentions that once the millennia-years are over, Satan shall be loosed from his prison and be released—trying to fool the world within the four quarters of the globe.
The beloved city and fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them, and as the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of Fire and Brimstone, where the beast and false prophet are and will be afflicted throughout the day and night and forever. Notice that this fire rains down from heaven onto earth, ultimately becoming a lake of fire to destroy Satan and his followers
- Souls Are Reserved in heaven
The Book of Enoch chapter 22 verses 1 through 2 speaks of a place in heaven made of rock with deep hollow places verses 3 through 4 reads then Raphael answered one of the Holy Angels who was with me and said unto me these hollow places had been created for this very purpose that the spirits of the souls of the dead should assemble therein yay that all the souls of the children of men should assemble here.
The Bible clarifies that the dead are unconscious in the gray Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verses five through six states for the living know that they shall die. Still, the dead know nothing, nor have they a reward for their memory is forgotten. They have not been than a small portion of everything that’s done under the Sun. Also, their love and their hatred, and their envy now perish.
It won’t be until the second coming of Jesus Christ that the dead are raised from the grave to be taken to heaven. First Thessalonians chapters four and verses 16-17 declare that the Lord himself will descend from heaven shouting with the sound from the Archangel and also with the sound of the trumpet. Trump, that is, the trump of God or the dead of Christ, will rise first.
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
- There Are Many Scientific Contradictions
There are many astronomical and meteorological contradictions in the Book of Enoch, which defy both the Bible and modern scientific facts. For example, in chapter 33, verses one through four, the Book of Enoch states that Enoch mapped and counted all the stars in the sky.
However, Jeremiah chapter 33 verse 22 says the stars cannot be numbered. It’s a physical impossibility because there are so many of them. Astronomers estimate there are about 100,000 million stars in the Milky Way alone. Besides that, there are millions upon millions of other galaxies. Also, in the Book of Enoch chapter 41, the winds, snow, hail, and Moon all come off a wooden receptacle in heaven.
This is ridiculous unscientific, and unbiblical by now. You may be starting to see Why Was The Book Of Enoch Removed From The Bible? Contradicts the Bible numerous times the Book of Enoch actually falls into a category of writings called the Pseudepigrapha. Means that the author is not who it claims to be, and that makes sense because the Book of Enoch speaks about Noah and the Bible indicates that Enoch was taken to heaven before Noah’s time.
So it’s much more likely that the Book of Enoch was written by someone else at a later date who falsely claimed that Enoch was the original author; therefore, the Book of Enoch doesn’t have much value for Christians who are trying to learn the gospel truths. But one of the reasons Jude may have quoted from it is because it was well known at the time, and the passage she quoted contained some inspirational truth, which helped strengthen his case for the gospel.
