prayer for speech

Dear God,

I come to you today asking for the strength to face my fears and speak in public. I know that you have given me this gift of speech so that I can share your message of love and hope with others, and I am grateful for it. Please help me to be brave and confident when I need to speak at work or in front of a large crowd. Give me the courage to stand up for myself as well as for others who might not be able to do so on their own. Bless my words when I speak out against injustice. Give me the wisdom to know what is right and true, so that I can speak with grace and compassion.

I pray these things in Christ’s name—Amen

People universally moving closer to God, standing in union with each other and being comforted by His presence – that’s what unites a church. But there’s one thing that keeps dividing them. It’s the one thing we have in common: Human frailty. You see, our speech – from the Apostles to the last person who just finished singing “Amazing Grace” – has not been worthy in God’s sight because of our frailty. To God, this is seen as a serious problem.

Father, guide my thoughts before they become my words. Place a guard over my mouth and a watchman over the door of my lips.

When I open my mouth, I ask You to fill it with right words, good words, true words, loving words—words that will point the way to Your heart. May my words be acceptable and pleasing to You as You hear their sound and know the intent behind them.

Use my words this day to heal and not harm, to restore and not separate, to extend mercy and not judgment, to build up and not pull down, to comfort and not injure, to bring sunlight and not shadows, to encourage and not quench, to mend and not wound.

May my words herald good news, be seasoned with salt, and bring grace to the hearer.

If I am to speak correction, may it be with compassion; if I am to exhort, may it be with humility; If I am to instruct, may it be with brokenness; if I am to guide, may it be with wisdom; if I am to inform, may it be with clarity; if I am to counsel, may it be according to Your word.

Guard my tongue from murmuring and my voice from complaint. In all things, may my mouth be filled with words of gratitude, expressions of praise, and proclamations of Your faithfulness.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy” ~ Psalm 103:2-4

About a year ago, I sat in an office where an oncologist told my husband after three battles with cancer that sometimes you just have to have faith. I sat there and thought about how the burden of healing sickness is never on the patient, how it is never even on a doctor, but how it is always, always, on God.

The burden of healing falls on my God who knows the plans he has for me even when my own hopes collapse around me. The burden of healing lies in my God whose ways aren’t a faith formula, but a mystery. The burden of healing doesn’t lie in saying just the right words or praying something that sounds beautiful. And I don’t know about you but that frees me up to pray a little more boldly for God to heal.

If you or your loved ones are sick and in need of healing, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional healing, here are prayers you can pray for them today:

prayer for speaking clearly

Lord Jesus, thank you that you love [name of the person who needs healing]. I know that you hate what their illness is doing to them/me. I ask, in the name of Jesus, that you would heal this disease, that you would have compassion and bring healing from all sickness.

Your word says in Psalm 107:19-20 that when we call out to you the Eternal one you will give the order, heal and rescue us from certain death. In the Bible, I have read of miraculous healing and I believe that you still heal the same way today. I believe that there is no illness you cannot heal after all the bible tells of you raising people from the dead so I ask for your healing in this situation.

I also know from my experience of life on earth that not everyone is healed if that happens here then keep my heart soft towards you, help me to understand your plan, and help me to be excited about heaven.

Lord Jesus, thank you that our hope for healing is in you. If there are doctors or treatments that you would want to use to heal this disease I pray that you would guide [name of the person who needs healing] to them. I ask for wisdom and discernment about which treatments to pursue.

God, I thank you that [name of the person who needs healing] belongs to you and that you are in control of everything that happens from our first breath to our last sigh.

Amen.

May this prayer for the sick guide your thoughts and communication with the Lord! Remember that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we do not know what to say. God knows your heart!

I ask for your healing over every part of my life – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I ask that you’d make me strong and resilient for the days ahead. I know that you have a great purpose for those who believe in your name.

Help me not to allow the distractions and struggles of my days to weigh me down to the point of exhaustion. I know that your desire is for me to live this life abundantly and free. And my greatest desire is to reflect your love and light to a world that so desperately needs your hope.

For those I love who are facing cancer or a hard diagnosis, I pray for your covering of healing and grace. I pray for your strength and your great peace to fill their lives, reminding them that you are close. Thank you that nothing is impossible with you. Thank you that you’re fighting for us and you are bigger than anything this world throws our way.

I lean fully on you Lord, for You alone are able. I love you; I need you this day, and always.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Almighty God,
you are the only source of health and healing.
In you there is calm,
and the only true peace in the universe.

Grant to each one of us your children
an awareness of your presence,
and give us perfect confidence in you.

In all pain and weariness and anxiety
teach us to yield ourselves to your never failing care,
knowing that your love and power surround us,

trusting in your wisdom and providence
to give us health and strength and peace
when your time is best;
through Jesus Christ our Lord

Almighty God,
you know that we are surrounded by many great dangers,
and because of our human frailty
we cannot withstand them.

Give us health of mind and body
so that we who suffer under sin
may overcome and win the victory in you;

through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

Lord, I commit my failures as well as my successes into your hands, and I bring for your healing the people and the situations, the wrongs and the hurts of the past.

Give me courage, strength, and generosity to let go and move on, leaving the past behind me, and living the present to the full.

Lead me always to be positive as I ‘entrust the past to your mercy, the present to your love, and the future to your providence’.

Gracious Father, all health and healing are gifts from your hand. We pray for [Name], give his doctors and nurses the wisdom and skill as they work for his healing*.

While he waits and faces many unknowns, calm all doubts and fears with the Word of your promise that nothing can separate us from your love that is ours in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39).

Speed [Name]’s healing if it is your will, and give him an extra measure of patience as he waits for you to work all these things for his good (Romans 8:28); through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
