What Jesus Himself Teaches About Salvation (II John 1:9)

In this episode of BibleTalk, we’re going to discuss II John 1:9. The verse reads: “Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.”

But what do these words mean? How can we be sure that we are abiding in His teachings? And what does it mean to abide in Christ?

about What Jesus Himself Teaches About Salvation

To answer these questions, Pastor Mike begins by introducing us to some important background information about II John 1:9. He shares how this verse was written by the Apostle John while he was imprisoned on an island called Patmos. This is significant because it establishes that he had no access to Scripture or other religious writings during his time there. Instead, he relied solely on God’s Spirit for guidance as he wrote down these words through divine inspiration!

He then explains that abiding in Christ means obeying Him and following His commands (John 14:15). We must obey Him because He is our Lord and Savior—and if we don’t obey Him, then He cannot save us from our sins!
