Prayer is an important way to experience God as the religious believer can communicate with Him. By bringing their problems to God, or asking for forgiveness and help, they come closer to Him. Christians believe they can speak with God in prayer and were taught to pray by Jesus himself.

The continuity of our relationship with God is facilitated by our prayer life.
When we pray, we allow God to do His work in and through us because we are making ourselves vulnerable to Him. Praying also strengthens our connection to God.
We learn more about a person through conversation and interaction. The same process takes place when we talk to God in prayer. Spending more time in conversation with Him is the surest way to become closer to Him.
As it says in James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (NKJV).
Many times in my own life, I have experienced the peace that passes all understanding when I have drawn near to God in prayer.
Praying helps me center my thoughts on what’s most important. Praying gives us a divine perspective on life and is therefore crucial. A member of my youth group passed away suddenly. Finding effective ways to love and minister to our wounded students has been challenging. The power of prayer has sustained me through this difficult period. It has helped me communicate with God, hear His voice, and experience His presence while I grieve alongside my church and community.
Be worried about nothing, but in everything, through prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV).
Praying puts us in a position to experience God’s peace, which is beyond our comprehension. Prayer keeps my mind on the things that are dear to God, both in the happy times and the bad.

you granted countless graces to your priest Saint
Josemaría, choosing him as a most faithful
instrument to found Opus Dei, a way to holiness
through daily work and the ordinary duties of a
Christian. Grant that I also may learn to turn all

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Wherever your yearnings, your work, your
affections are, that is the place for your daily
encounter with Christ. It is in the midst of the
most material things of the earth that we must
sanctify ourselves, serving God and all people.
Heaven and earth seem to merge, my sons and
daughters, on the horizon. But where they really
meet is in your hearts, when you sanctify your
everyday lives.
Saint Josemaría Escrivá, Homily Passionately

Saint Josemaría Escrivá was born in Barbastro,
Spain, on 9 January 1902. He was ordained to the
priesthood in Saragossa on 28 March 1925. On 2
October 1928, by divine inspiration, he founded
Opus Dei. On 26 June 1975, he died unexpectedly
in Rome in the room where he worked, after a last
affectionate glance at a picture of Our Lady. Opus
Dei had by then spread to five continents, with
over 60,000 members of 80 nationalities, serving
the Church with the same spirit of complete union
with the Pope and the Bishops which
characterised Saint Josemaría. His Holiness Pope
John Paul II canonised the Founder of Opus Dei in
Rome on 6 October 2002. His feast is celebrated
on 26 June. The body of Saint Josemaría rests in
the prelatic Church of Our Lady of Peace, Viale
Bruno Buozzi 75, Rome.
