Prayer To Reconcile With God

We’ve all been there. Times when we feel as though we are off track in our walk with God. Maybe we’ve gone through a rough patch and need reassurance that He is still with us and will never leave us. Maybe there is some sin in our lives that has caused us guilt and shame and we’ve tried to push the thought out of our minds. Or maybe the simple fact is that we’ve just got so caught up in the day-to-day struggles of life that we’ve lost our spiritual focus. If you find yourself in any of these situations, then this prayer to recommit your life to God is for you. This prayer is for people who want to recommit their lives to God and look forward to a new beginning with Him. There are times when we recognize that our lives have been devoid of spiritual growth or that we have strayed from God’s blessings – we make mistakes, we get caught up in the world, and feel frustrated and disgruntled with life. We need to realize that no matter what happened, it is never too late to recommit ourselves to God. The future looks bright even when it has looked bleak in the past. It is never too late to reach out again and speak to God as an obedient child of his. He will always listen and answer back, even if his answer is no – he knows what he is doing, and knows when you need him most. Are you thinking of recommitting your life to God or have you ever stopped walking with God? In this prayer we give thanks and praise to God for the forgiveness that he provides. Lord, thank you for opening our eyes to your grace and mercy. You are faithful and forgiving. Thank you for cleansing our hearts. Thank you for revealing how sinful we really were and how lost we really were without you. Thank you for showing us that you really do love us even though we turned our backs on you.

I was talking to a friend who I like to call my “saint of all saints.” He’s more human than he is saintly, but he’s the closest thing I know of. Anyhow, we were talking about the direction of his ministry and his marriage. This friend is married with 2 kids and runs an online community where many people come to him for advice in matters of faith. He had just returned from a trip where he spoke at several churches. Do you want to recommit to God? Just for today, I choose to recommit my body, mind, and spirit to the holy presence of God. Today, I will commit myself to seeking God, knowing that He already knows the thoughts in my heart. If I need to heal from something, I’ll ask for forgiveness. If I need guidance and direction in life, I will ask for His wisdom. If something is bothering me, I’ll pray and ask that it would be healed by God. The Bible says that you and I are called to pray without ceasing. But I know just how difficult it is to remain focused on Jesus, God, and Heaven. There are many distractions that seem to pull us away from God. In fact, there were times in my life when I was so distant from God that I thought I had lost Heaven for good.

Several of the emails I send to my family tell them the same thing: I love them. This is because their copies have “copied” their older email. But honestly, after slicing so thin for weeks, I started to notice that repeated sentence in my messages or subject lines. So I decided to change this sentence and also it allowed me to talk about a biblical story I had recently read. God, give me the strength to lay down my worries and rise above my day-to-day challenges. Help me focus on things that matter, like being a supportive partner and pursuing my passion. Guide me to make decisions with faith, not fear. Teach me how to appreciate what I have, rather than clinging to what I don’t. Fill my heart with love for my family, friends and community so that I can be there for them when they need me most. In Jesus’ name, help me to live each day joyously knowing that you are by my side.

Prayer To Reconcile With God

The act of rededication means to humble yourself, confess your sin to the Lord, and return to God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and being. If you recognize the need to rededicate your life to God, here are simple instructions and a suggested prayer to follow.

Humble Yourself

If you’re reading this page, you’ve probably already begun to humble yourself and resubmit your will and your ways to God:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV)

Begin With Confession

The first act of rededication is to confess your sins to the Lord, Jesus Christ:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  (1 John 1:9, NIV)

You can pray in your own words, or pray this Christian rededication prayer. Give thanks to God for a change of attitude so your heart can return to what is most important.

Dear Lord,

I humble myself before you and confess my sin. I want to thank you for hearing my prayer and helping me return to you. Lately, I’ve been wanting things to go my own way. As you know, this hasn’t been working out. I see where I’ve been going the wrong way—my own way. I’ve been placing my faith and trust in everyone and everything but you.

Dear Father, I return now to you, the Bible, and your Word. I pray for guidance as I listen for your voice. Let me return to what is most important—you. Help my attitude to change so that instead of focusing on others and events to meet my needs, I can turn to you and find the love, purpose, and direction I seek. Help me to seek you first. Let my relationship with you be the most important thing in my life.

Thank you, Jesus, for helping me, loving me, and showing me the way. Thank you for new mercies, for forgiving me. I rededicate myself to you wholly. I surrender my will to your will. I give you back control of my life.

You are the only one who gives freely, with love to anyone who asks. The simplicity of it all still astounds me.

In the Name of Jesus, I pray.

Amen.

Seek God First

Seek the Lord first in everything you do. Discover the privilege and adventure of spending time with God. Consider setting aside time for daily devotions. If you incorporate prayer, praise, and reading the Bible into your daily routine, it will help you stay focused and dedicated wholly to the Lord.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)

More Bible Verses for Rededication

This famous passage contains King David’s rededication prayer after Nathan the prophet confronted him with his sin (2 Samuel 12). David had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and then covered it up by having her husband killed and taking Bathsheba as his wife. Consider incorporating parts of this passage into your own prayer of rededication:

Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.

Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me—now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. (Excerpts from Psalm 51:2–12, NLT)

In this passage, Jesus told his followers they were seeking the wrong thing. They were looking for miracles and healing. The Lord told them to stop centering their attention on things that would please themselves. We are to focus on Christ and find out what he wants us to do every day through a relationship with him. Only as we follow this way of life can we understand and know who Jesus really is. Only this lifestyle leads to eternal life in heaven.

Then he [Jesus] said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23, NLT)
