Prayer To St Bartholomew For Skin Healing

Bartholomew’s martyrdom is honored on the first day of the Coptic calendar (i.e., the first day of the month of Thout), which falls on September 11 every year, according to the Synaxarium of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria (corresponding to August 29 in the Julian calendar).

On June 11th, Eastern Christianity honors him, and on August 24th, the Catholic Church honors him.

Bartholomew was born in the Galilee town of Cana. Philip and Bartholomew’s names are linked in each of the disciples’ lists, which could indicate that they were close friends or even related. St. Bartholomew preached in India and Greater Armenia. He was flayed and decapitated in Armenia, where he was martyred.

Nathaniel is the name given to Bartholomew in St. John’s Gospel (the liturgy does not always seem aware of this identity). He was one of the Lord’s first disciples, hailing from Cana in Galilee. On that initial meeting, Jesus uttered the glorious compliment, “Behold, an Israelite indeed in whom there is no guile!“

According to Syrian tradition, Bartholomew’s birth name was Jesus (Yeshua), which was a common name at the time and meant Joshua, causing him to change his name.

According to Eusebius of Caesarea’s Ecclesiastical History, Bartholomew traveled on a missionary voyage to India after the Ascension, leaving behind a copy of Matthew’s Gospel. According to other accounts, he worked as a missionary in Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, Parthia, and Lycaonia.

Bartholomew is credited with bringing Christianity to Armenia in the first century, along with his fellow Apostle Jude. As a result, both saints are honored as patrons of the Armenian Apostolic Church. There is also a local tradition that he was martyred by being flayed alive and then crucified head down at the Maiden Tower in Baku, Azerbaijan.
