Overlake Church Scandal
The senior pastor of the Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, who was brought in eight years ago after his predecessor was beset by scandal, has announced his resignation.
The elders of one of the largest churches in the state have been mum on when or how they will choose a successor to Pastor Rick Kingham.
During his eight years on staff, “Pastor Rick served with honor and integrity and helped lay a spiritual foundation on which future ministry will be built,” as one church elder, Bob Senatore, put it in a statement.
Following the departure of Pastor Bob Moorehead, who had led the church for 28 years, Kingham is credited with guiding the congregation through a difficult time.
When multiple men came forward in 1998 to accuse Moorehead of inappropriate touching from the 1980s, he resigned. Despite his denials, Moorehead resigned because he felt his credibility had been damaged by the allegations.
Church leaders initially stood by Moorehead, but later said they accepted the allegations.
