Isabella, the queen of Castile and Leon, was born in 1295. Her parents were James II and Joan of Acuña. She became queen when her father died in 1312 and her mother died two months later. Isabella married Ferdinand IV of Aragon in 1319, and they had four children: Sancho, Alfonso and Maria de la Cerda.
Isabella’s reign as queen was a time of peace and prosperity for Spain. She worked with Ferdinand to improve trade relations between their countries by signing an agreement called the Treaty of Granada. The treaty allowed merchants from both countries to do business freely in each other’s lands.
