Lifestyle of Prayer

God’s most perfect gift, prayer, is not a divine suggestion, but it is God’s appointed means of achieving His will on earth.

A prayer is a powerful tool, but it isn’t magic. It requires discipline and the power of God to bring about change. We can talk to God about anything, but sometimes we need to be still and quiet to hear how He responds. He doesn’t always answer quickly or in the way we expect, and that can be a challenge. Prayer is not a suggestion—it is God’s appointed means of achieving His will on earth. That’s why it is so important for us as believers to set aside time every day, pray for others, and seek God through the study of His word.

The Bible tells us we can have confidence that when we pray we can know that God hears us

For you to pray effectively, you must be born again and walk in fellowship with Him through obedience to His Word.

Prayer is a relationship with God, and therefore for you to pray effectively, you must be born again and walk in fellowship with Him through obedience to His Word. Obedience is the basis of any successful relationship. Obedience brings trust, and trust brings intimacy. If your spouse knew that you were unfaithful and disobedient to their desires, would they be able to fully open up to you? Would they be able to trust that if they gave you sensitive information it would stay safe between the two of you? Even as we desire full intimacy with our spouses, so does our Lord with us.

As we’ve seen, when Jesus lived on this earth He spent much time alone in prayer talking intimately with His Father because of their close-knit relationship built on love and obedience from both sides. When He was on earth Jesus warned His disciples that many would come looking for Him saying “‘Lord! Lord!’ but will not enter into God’s Kingdom.” (Luke 6:46). Jesus was referring to those who would claim discipleship without obeying His words. “If anyone prefers man’s teaching over mine,” said Jesus, “he is not worthy of me” (Matthew 10:37). These people claimed allegiance with Jesus yet did not obey His teachings; thus they were not truly in fellowship with Him.”

Find a quiet place with no distractions.

Do not do anything else but pray. Put away all distractions, from the TV to your favorite fluffy pillow, and just do prayer. You can’t be expected to be able to focus if you have a million things distracting you. If you only have a short time to pray every day, you must use it wisely. Do not let anything stand in your way as you begin this new habit of praying regularly!

Turn off your phone or any other device that might distract you or interrupt your prayer time. Nothing can get in the way of your time with God. Use this time set aside for prayer to quiet yourself and get ready to speak with Lord Jesus Christ himself. Be still before the Lord; wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7).

Acknowledge who He is and what He has done for you.

  • Acknowledge who He is and what He has done for you.

He is:

the creator of the universe.

the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

the Savior of the world.

the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

the giver of life.

the giver of salvation.

Pray in Jesus’ name.

Be persistent and keep praying until you see the answer.

Be persistent and keep praying until you see the answer. The power of prayer is in the praying. Don’t give up! Keep calling on God knowing that He hears you and is working out His solution in your life. The Bible says, “Dear brothers and sisters when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy” (James 1:2). When we go through difficult situations in our lives, we can trust that God cares about us. He knows what He is doing even if it doesn’t make sense to us at the time. We need to trust God’s timing and be patient.

Prayer is your access to an unlimited source of power!

The power of prayer is a spiritual force that can change your life and the lives of those around you. Prayer is a spiritual law that can be used to change your life and the world around you. Prayer is your access to an unlimited source of power! God’s Word tells us:

“`”Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one who asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” -Matthew 7:7-8

““Prayer can do anything God can do. The Bible says in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and earth.” Then in the next few verses, we are told how He did it. It was through His Words! Jesus said in Matthew 8:8-9, “According to thy faith be it unto thee.” When we pray with faith believing what we say will come to pass exactly as we say it, God will respond accordingly.
