The Bible is full of fascinating facts, and we’ve highlighted some of the most interesting ones here.
The Bible was originally written in Hebrew. It was translated into Greek in the 2nd century BC and Latin in the 4th century AD. In the 16th century, translations were made into other European languages such as English, German, Italian and French.
The first translation of the whole Bible into English was by William Tyndale in 1525-28 (Tyndale also translated parts of it into Welsh). He was burned at the stake for his efforts, but his translation remained popular for centuries.
King James I commissioned a new translation of the Bible from six scholars who worked on it for 10 years until 1611 when it was published as “King James Version” or “Authorised Version”. It is still in use today by many churches all over the world because it is considered to be an accurate and poetic translation from Hebrew and Greek texts which were used as sources for this version of Bible.

Did you know that the Bible wasn’t written in English?
It’s true! The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic—and it took hundreds of years for translations to be made into English.
The first translation of the whole Bible into English was done by John Wycliffe in 1384. It took him about ten years to translate the whole thing, but he had help from his friends and colleagues.
After Wycliffe finished his translation, the Roman Catholic Church banned his book because they thought it would lead people away from Roman Catholicism. They burned all copies they could get their hands on!
In 1526, William Tyndale published a new translation of the New Testament. He was arrested and executed in 1536 because King Henry VIII didn’t like that Tyndale’s translation omitted references to the Pope as “bishop of Rome.”
Then there’s my favorite part: In 1611, King James of England commissioned a new translation of the Bible. This is what we call “The King James Version” today!
Did you know that the Bible was written in a time when people believed that the earth was flat?
While many of us know this, we don’t stop to think about it. We think that because we’re living in a time where we know the earth is round, everything in the Bible must be as well. But this isn’t true at all! The writers of the bible had no way of knowing what shape our planet was. They just assumed it was flat.
So how did they get around this problem? Well, they used metaphors to describe things that were round, like “the circle of life” or “the cycle of seasons”. But when it came to describing God’s love for us and our love for him, they couldn’t use these metaphors because God loves us unconditionally and always has–he doesn’t go through cycles! And yet… he is also eternal and never changes. How do you describe something like that?
The answer: You use two circles overlapping each other! This symbolizes how God’s love for us will never end–even if we sin or reject him–and also how he will always forgive us if we ask him to.
Interesting facts from the bible
Noah was 600 years old when the flood started (Genesis 7:6)
It is interesting to note that Noah was 600 years old when the flood began. He was 502 years old when he left the ark, and he lived an additional 350 years after the flood’s end. Based on these numbers, it can be concluded that Noah lived to be 950 years old. However, this conclusion assumes that the world was created in 4004 BC (as per Ussher’s chronology). If we revise our estimate by assuming a different date for creation—such as 6000 BC (the approximate date of creation proposed by Archbishop Ussher) or 10,000 BC—then it appears likely that Noah lived even longer than his stated age at death!
There were actually three arks in the Bible, not just one.
There were actually three arks in the Bible, not just one.
The first one is Noah’s ark. The second is Moses’s ark (aka Moses’ basket). The third is the ark of the covenant.
There were at least 8 people on the ark.
You probably know that Noah was on the ark, but did you know there were also eight other people?
Noah and his family were the only humans left after God wiped out all of humanity for their wickedness (yikes). But in addition to Noah, his wife and three sons, there were also three wives for each son. That’s a total of eight people on the ark.
Noah’s wife was named Emzara or Emzarah depending on which translation you look at; his sons were Shem (the oldest), Ham (the middle child) and Japheth (the youngest). The names mean “Breath”/”Breathing Place”/”Fresh Air”/”Fresh Wind,” “Black Hair,” “Dark-skinned/Dark-haired One.” They are all very specific biblical translations that help us understand how they saw themselves in relation to others back then—and what kinds of assumptions we make about those translations today!
Manna fell from heaven for 40 years after the Israelites left Egypt.
Manna was a white, sweet substance that tasted like honey and fell from heaven for 40 years after the Israelites left Egypt. Manna was a sign of God’s providence, provision, power and purity.
- Proverbs 16:6 says “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged.” God’s mercy prevents us from being punished for our sins, but His justice requires us to pay for them anyway (Romans 6:23). Jesus paid our debt when He died on the cross (Romans 5:8).
- Deuteronomy 8:3 says “Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes form the mouth of God.” While manna was only available while they were in the wilderness before entering into Canaan (Exodus 16), Christ’s words will never pass away (Matthew 24:35).
The Hebrew word for “manna” literally means “what is it?” or “what is this?”
The Hebrew word for “manna” literally means “what is it?” or “what is this?” In fact, the Hebrew word for manna is used in Deuteronomy 8:3 and Psalm 78:24. However, when you look up the KJV translation of these verses, you won’t find the word “manna” listed. Instead, these verses use different words altogether (such as “curds,” which are similar to cheese curds). The reason for this discrepancy is that the translators were trying to match what was actually written in their Bibles—the King James Version didn’t have a translation for the Hebrew word “manna.”
The actual translation should be something along the lines of: “What is this thing?” One theory behind why God used this specific phrase is because He wanted to emphasize that He provided sustenance just like any other human would provide food and drink when someone asks them if they want something tasty to eat!
Nebuchadnezzar sent Daniel and his friends to an academy of training in Babylon.
The king sent Daniel and his friends to an academy of training in Babylon. The king wanted to prepare them to serve in his palace, so that they could take over for the educated men who served him now. They were young, but he saw that their qualities were excellent, and he saw that they would be faithful and loyal to him.
The king was willing to pay for their education because he knew it was important that they learn how to read and write well so they could do a good job serving him when they returned home
Daniel and his friends refused to eat the king’s food, so they were given vegetables instead (Daniel 1).
Your diet can have health benefits.
Daniel and his friends refused to eat the king’s food, so they were given vegetables instead (Daniel 1). They ate healthier meals than the other students, who ate rich food from the king’s kitchen. After ten days of eating good food and not getting sick, Daniel’s friends convinced him that their diet was better than what everyone else was eating. This shows how important it is for kids to choose healthy foods for themselves!
Daniel was a vegetarian.
Daniel was a vegetarian.
This is an interesting fact about the Bible that many people don’t know about. Daniel refused to eat meat or any animal products and ate only vegetables and water. He was not a vegan, however, because he did not refuse all animal products such as milk and eggs, just flesh foods (Genesis 1:29).
Darius was tricked into throwing Daniel into a lion’s den (Daniel 6).
In the sixth chapter of Daniel, you’ll find an interesting story about a man named Darius. He was tricked into throwing a man named Daniel into a lions’ den because he was accused of being disloyal to the king. But guess what? The lions didn’t touch him! In fact, they even ate grass and showered Daniel with affection (literally).
But wait—there’s more! When Darius found out that his order had been rescinded and Daniel was safe, he lived up to his word by allowing all of God’s people who were left in captivity to return home.
There are interesting people who had interesting lives in the bible
You can find some of these people in the Bible. There are many more famous and interesting characters who lived on Earth before Jesus was born, but they don’t appear in the Bible. For example, King David was one of Israel’s most famous kings and he wrote many songs in praise of God. You won’t find him in the New Testament because he died hundreds of years before Jesus was born!
