Planning a wedding can be fun, exciting and stressful all at once. The biggest thing to remember is that it’s your special day! You’re allowed to have fun with it as long as you remember that everything has to be personalised and meaningful for you and your partner. You might think of this process as something that starts when you find out what type of dress you want or how many guests are coming, but really it starts much earlier than that…

Heavenly Father, help groom and bride to be understanding and forgiving of human weaknesses and failings. Increase their faith and trust in You and may You guide their life and love. Bless this marriage with peace and happiness, and make their love beautiful for Your glory. Amen.

A Wedding Prayer from the Bible:

  • The Prayer of St. Francis: “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred let me sow love, where there is injury pardon, where there is doubt faith, where there is despair hope and where there are darkness light.”*The Lord’s Prayer: “Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”*Psalm 136 (King James Version):”Give thanks unto the Lord for He is good for His mercy endureth forever; Giving thanks unto the God of gods for His mercy endureth forever…”

Wedding Prayer #2 – An Ancient Irish Blessing

An Ancient Irish Blessing

And rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

  • Bride and Groom: May you find solace in the day you were married.
  • Parents of the Bride, Parents of the Groom – May your joy continue to grow as you watch your children become husband and wife.
  • Couple – May your love for one another be a blessing to others who seek it out through their example.
  • Guests – May this day be an inspiration to all who observe its beauty!

Wedding Prayer #4 – A Short Christian Prayer for a Marriage Ceremony

This short Christian prayer for a marriage ceremony is appropriate for the bride and groom, who will be joined together in holy matrimony.

This wedding prayer is also appropriate for couples who have already been married and want to renew their vows.

We ask You to bless this union and help each of us grow closer to You as we journey together through life’s challenges. We pray that our love will deepen as we learn how to care for one another, all the while building upon what is good in both of us. May our lives be full of joy and love, so that we may rejoice in Your presence every day. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Wedding Prayer #5 – A Marriage Blessing From the Book of Ruth

  • “May your marriage be blessed with love, joy and peace. You have been chosen to be a wife/husband of this man/woman, who will cherish you and provide for you in every way.” (Ruth 1:16-17)
  • “May the Lord bless you both and may his face shine upon you.” (Ruth 2:4)

Wedding Prayer #6 – An Old Irish Blessing for a Couple’s Journey

This prayer is from the book of Ruth. It’s a blessing for the couple’s journey together, and it’s in a short but beautiful old Irish language.

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Wedding Prayer #7 – A Bible Verse on Love and Marriage to Bless a Couple

One of the best places you can find wedding prayers is in the Bible. That’s because it contains many verses that contain God’s perspective on marriage and love. Take this short verse from Proverbs 31:10, for example: “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” This is a beautiful blessing to give a couple as they start their lives together.

Wedding Prayer #8 – A Short Traditional Christian Wedding Blessing

A short traditional Christian wedding blessing:

May you always be happy and healthy, and may you share all the good things of life together. May God bless you on your wedding day, and make it a day full of joy.

May the Lord bless you both with love and peace as you continue your life together in unity, trust and respect for one another. Amen!

Wedding Prayer #9 – A Jewish prayer that celebrates love and marriage

This Jewish prayer is called Sheva Berachot. It is a blessing on a couple’s marriage, coming from the Talmud. This prayer is used at Jewish weddings and says:

“Blessed art thou O Lord our God who hast sanctified us with thy commandments and hast commanded us concerning marriage.”

This ritual emphasizes the importance of marriage and endorses it by referring to the seven blessings in this prayer as “sanctified.”

Wedding Prayers For The Bride And Groom

Where to find even more wedding blessings, prayers and readings

Google is still the best place to start when looking for blessings and prayers. If you know the religious preference of the bride or groom, it can narrow your search; otherwise, try searching with terms like “wedding blessing,” “wedding prayer,” “wedding reading,” or even just “wedding.”

You’ll likely find a host of websites and resources that offer free readings and blessings. Be sure to check out both Christian and non-Christian resources (such as Jewish ones), since it’s always nice to honor traditions from all sides of a couple’s family and friends!

If your local church doesn’t have any prewritten wedding readings on its website, ask someone there if they might have any printed materials available from which you could pull something yourself. You may also want to look at other houses of worship nearby: what better way for two people who’ve come from different faiths than through marriage?

The Internet is full of stories that may have been written by couples themselves—and what better way for them convey their feelings about marriage than through their own words?

Wedding Prayers For Couples

Wedding ceremonies are a beautiful symbol of love and commitment. They give us a chance to reflect on where we’ve been and what’s to come in our relationship. That’s why wedding prayers are so important–they offer the bride and groom an opportunity to connect with God before their marriage begins, as well as ask for His blessing over their lives together. In this post, I’ll share some of my favorite Christian wedding prayers that you can use when planning your ceremony!

A Prayer for Today

  • A Prayer for Today
  • This prayer is a blessing of God’s presence and love in the marriage relationship. It gives thanks to God for bringing this couple together, and asks Him to give them strength and faith as they begin their life together.

A Prayer for the Marriage Relationship

A prayer for the marriage relationship should focus on the bride and groom, their families, and all that they are experiencing together. It should include a blessing for their marriage, their children, and any future plans they have as a couple.

This prayer can be read aloud at your wedding ceremony or printed in a program to be handed out to guests who attend.

The Wedding Prayer

As you and your partner prepare to join in marriage, we offer this prayer.

  • Prayer is a way of expressing love, gratitude, hope and thanksgiving. It can also be a means for expressing praise and faith. This prayer is offered in the spirit of love and celebration that we have come to know as Christian marriage.
  • May God bless you as you embark on this new journey together!

Give them happiness and health, that they may enjoy the blessings of your love eternally. May their love endure through all the years of their lives on earth, so that in heaven they may share in your joyous celebration at the end of time. Amen

A Prayerful Blessing for the Bride and Groom

A Prayerful Blessing for the Bride and Groom

  • A prayer of blessing.
  • A prayer of thanksgiving.
  • A prayer of petition, that they may be blessed with long life, prosperity and happiness here, and be admitted to eternal glory hereafter.
  • A prayer of intercession, that they may never know what sin or sorrow means; but pass through this world as children of light and heirs of heaven.
  • A prayer of dedication: I consecrate you to God this day; I give you to him who is your master now and always; I give myself in marriage also unto him. This is my solemn vow; let it stand fast forevermore!

No matter what, remember that your wedding day is just the beginning of a lifetime together and you will always have each other.

Your wedding day is just the beginning of a lifetime together, so it’s important to remember that the couple is more than just two people. As you stand with your new spouse and all your loved ones by your side, remember that your marriage isn’t about you—it’s about everyone else in your lives who will be there for you through thick and thin.

As you begin this new chapter in life, know that no matter what happens, as long as you have each other by your side during every moment of joy or pain (and everything in between), then everything else will fall into place.

We hope that these prayers have given you the inspiration and encouragement to create your own unique wedding prayer. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to pray! You should feel free to change any of these verses as needed—or even make up your own completely from scratch. After all, this is a very special day for both bride and groom (and everyone else involved), so don’t be afraid to let go of some traditions in order to make it truly yours.
