Bible Verses About Husband’s Responsibilities

God gave the man a powerful role in his household, but not without responsibility. The Bible shows that husbands are to treat their wives with love, care and respect. They must be trust-worthy leaders and protectors, co-workers and friends. These key Biblical qualities are necessary to fulfilling your God-given role as a husband.

Any good husband will know that his wife is his closest confidant, but in the same breath, he has a responsibility to be her protector and helpmeet. A good husband provides for his wife’s needs and wants; encourages, comforts and supports her through difficult times.

The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (1 Corinthians 7:3-5)

Duties Of A Husband In The Bible

The Bible describes in detail the responsibilities of the husband. This is a great source for husbands to read and understand what it means to be a godly man.

So husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of His body.

  1. Titus 2:3-5

3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

1 Peter 3:7

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ephesians 5:25-30

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of his body. In this same way husbands ought to love their wives as they do their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.

  1. Genesis 2:18

“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”

  1. Ephesians 5:33

“Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”

  1. 1 Peter 3:7-8

“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
