Bible Verses About Being Anxious
Anxiety can be a good thing if it drives you to action, but too much anxiety leads to stress, which can have an adverse effect on your health. The Bible has a lot of verses about being anxious, so here is a small sampling of those verses: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers & saying Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was perished, being flooded with water.
The Bible is full of scriptures that tell us to be anxious or worry-free. Here are a few examples: to Be Anxious – Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Bible Verses For Anxiety Attacks
1 Peter 8:9
In 1 Peter 8:9, Peter reminds us that, “Though you have not seen him, you love him.” “Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” Regardless of the trials you’re going through, there’s always a reason to rejoice. Anxiety is a particularly difficult trial. When you focus on Christ, however, you can not only survive but thrive during times of darkness.
1 Peter 5:7
If anxious thoughts are overwhelming your mind, leaving you uneasy, worried, or nervous, you’re not alone. 1 Peter 5:7 counsels us to, “cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” God’s shoulders are broad and his view is sprawling. He knows exactly what’s coming because he’s already there—nothing is uncertain to him. Think about whatever is making you anxious, and cast all those cares on him. While it may sound simple, it’s part of the beauty of relying on our faithful God.
Sometimes an encouraging word at the right moment can make all the difference to a sad or anxious soul. The writer of Proverbs says, “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” This proverb reminds us that words have the power to hurt or heal. While it’s important to speak good words of truth and encouragement to the people around you, it’s important to speak those same words to yourself. Treat yourself as you would a good, close friend—with words that comfort and inspire, rather than hurt and degrade.
Proverbs 15:16 says, “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.” Sometimes, having more of something can actually cause trouble. While it can be easy to play the comparison game and find yourself wanting more, God meets your every need. As you reflect on this verse, think about what could be complicating your life, and ask God how you can start simplifying.
Psalm 27 reminds us to “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Waiting is hard, but it’s unavoidable. While it can be discouraging in the moment, God wants us to wait for him time. Next time you find yourself discouraged with God’s timing, try to reframe your thoughts. Rather than simply waiting, try changing your focus to confidently expecting.
As you meditate on these verses for anxiety, practice being still in God’s presence and watch your anxious thoughts melt away.
