Bible Study on godliness is the ability or state of pleasing or reverence of one’s god. It is closely linked to the concept of nobility and divine grace and is a prominent example of how God is, in some sense, the summum bonum of all things.
The issue of why so many people have come to accept what must be a false interpretation of the Bible is an intriguing one. Despite my shock at the events, I had to accept the possibility that the churchgoers here—at least the ones who had given their approval—lacked even the most basic understanding of the Bible.
False teaching is a major obstacle to a good relationship with God, and that may seem harsh. The church has become infected with false doctrine that distorts and flat-out rejects God’s Word. The snake’s first recorded statements from Satan to Eve are:
Satan sows the seeds of uncertainty and mistrust in Eve’s mind with these statements. His follow-up comments, however, were what exposed her to the heresy that led her to doubt and misinterpret God’s will.
Open enmity toward God’s Word has taken numerous forms throughout history. The question this raises, however, is how. A clue is provided in Jude’s letter:
There are those among you whose destinies were written in stone eons ago. To quote Jude, “they are ungodly people, who change the grace of our God into an occasion for immorality, and who put Jesus Christ to open shame” (Jude 1:4).
Due of financial constraints, evildoers were able to infiltrate the church and spread their heretical beliefs. To protect themselves from the dangers of false teaching, God’s people need a strategy that combines persistent, in-depth study of the Bible.
Bible Study on Godliness
The word godliness has a biblical meaning that is very different from what we mean by the word today. In fact, it is so different that we might be tempted to dismiss the idea of godliness altogether as irrelevant or outdated. However, as we examine what godliness means according to Scripture, we will see how there are many parallels between this ancient concept and our own lives today.
Godliness is not about prosperity or being right with God; rather, it is about having a deep relationship with Him based on love (1 Tim. 6:11). It is also about knowing Him deeply and loving Him passionately (Matt. 22:37-38). It involves submission to His authority in all areas of life (Acts 5:29). And it means walking in obedience to His commands (1 John 2:3-6). In short, godliness means living like Jesus lived: loving others sacrificially and serving them sacrificially (1 John 4:7-10).
- The word godliness is found in the Bible 9 times.
- The first occurrence of the word is in 1 Timothy 6:11, where it says, “But as for you, O man of God, flee these things; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness” (ESV).
- This verse tells us that godliness is a pursuit for all men and women who wish to be good people. It does not mean that we are perfect or holy now—only that we should try to become more holy as we grow older and more experienced with life.
- The second occurrence of the word is in 1 Timothy 3:16-17: “Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in human form, [yet] he was vindicated by the Spirit…” (ESV) This passage tells us that godliness comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit and being able to recognize when someone else has been filled with His power as well!
Benefits of Godliness In The Bible
-The Bible says that godliness is profitable for all things. Godliness is about being like God in our thoughts, words and actions. It’s about being who God wants us to be and doing what He tells us to do.
-Godly people have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. They know Him personally and have been given the Holy Spirit to help them in their daily lives.
-They are devoted to living a holy life because they know they can’t please God without His grace, power and love.
What is godliness?
The word “godly” is used in the Bible to describe people who are devoted to God and His ways. It’s often used in contrast to those who are not devoted, or those who do not follow God’s laws. In many cases, people are called “godless” because they don’t believe in God or follow His commands.
In other cases, people are called “godless” because they don’t believe in Christ or follow His teachings. This doesn’t mean that all unbelievers are godless—it means that they don’t follow Christ, who came to earth as a man and lived by example so that we could learn from Him and follow His example ourselves.
The Bible tells us that Jesus was without sin—that means He never did anything bad or wrong—and yet He died for us despite our sinfulness (Romans 5:8). If we confess our sins to God and ask Him for forgiveness, He will give it freely!
Godliness is the most important thing in life. Paul wrote, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content” (1 Timothy 6:6-8).
Godliness means that we are being like God, which is impossible. But God has promised to make us like Him (Romans 8:29). Godliness is a state of being that comes as a gift from God through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9).
