 andy stanley sermons on prayer

  • by

I have heard that nothing is so important as prayer. But I have also heard that nothing is so little practised by many professing Christians. How few are there who can with truth say, “I am a constant and faithful worshipper.” Many go to church every Lord’s-day, perhaps, merely because they suppose it right and proper; but very few go with a heart full of devotion, ready to unite with those around them in the worship of the Supreme Being. And this is not only a great sin in itself, but it has an injurious tendency upon all other duties. Many who are not strict observers of their religious duties neglect their worldly ones through want of spiritual influence and energy; while others who are not scrupulous about the former are strictly conscientious on the latter. And why? Because one is connected with God, and the other has no connection with Him whatever!

I am convinced that no duty can be performed properly without a previous act of prayerful devotion; and therefore I think it incumbent upon me to lay before you some considerations which may lead you to pray more frequently, more fervently, more perseveringly than hitherto.
